How Does Super Bowl Squares Work?

If you’re worried about Super Bowl Squares being a complicated game that you need to be an NFL fan to understand, have no fear. It’s incredibly simple to play and win. Simply put, you win by having the square or number that matches the last digit of the score of each team. You can choose to have a winner after each quarter or solely base it on the final score of Super Bowl LX.

If you’re still confused about how Super Bowl Squares works, let’s break it down further.

How to Play

While the concept of how to play Super Bowl Squares is simple, winning is difficult due to the number of squares there are. Normal boards have a grid of 100 squares. One team is represented on the top by columns, and the other is represented on the side by rows. Each square has a different number between zero and nine. The vast majority of people who play Super Bowl Squares have the squares chosen randomly so that everyone gets an equal shot. While you can also go straight through the grid in number order and randomly select names for each square, the importance is on the randomness of the draw.

When it comes to football, some squares will be more likely than others. For example, squares of zero or seven are more likely to be hit than a number like five. So, if people were able to choose, it wouldn’t be as even a playing field. With that being said, not everybody assigns squares randomly, as it’s always a crapshoot on how the game plays out.

If you’re curious about possible strategies or what squares are more likely to hit than others, check out our article that goes over the best Super Bowl Squares strategies.

How to Win Super Bowl Squares

After each quarter (if you play this way), one square on the board gets paid out based on the score. Let’s say that the Seattle Seahawks are beating the New England Patriots 10-0 at the end of the first quarter. Whoever has the square with both teams at zero wins the money for that quarter. If at halftime, the Seahawks are now winning by a score of 17-13, whoever has seven for the Seahawks and three for the Patriots wins.

In most contests, your square can also win multiple times. For example, if the score stays the same at the end of multiple quarters or ends in the same numbers, whoever has that specific square can be walking home with a hefty amount of cash. Usually, the payouts have the final score worth the most money, with the payout, but it depends on who’s running the game. When it comes to sportsbooks, they usually only pay based on the final score. For me, I prefer to have a payout for each quarter, with a slightly bigger payout for halftime, and the biggest payout for the final score. That way, everybody is involved throughout the whole game, not just the final two minutes or so.

The best part about Super Bowl Squares, and a big reason that it’s one of the most popular games, is that it is incredibly easy to customize to whatever you’d like! All you need is a printable Super Bowl Squares template. Ours happens to be blank, so that you can customize it in whatever fashion you’d like.
