After a day off for travel, both of the National League Division Series are set to resume on Monday. The nightcap to a full day of postseason baseball features Game 3 between the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. The two teams split the first two games of this series back in the Bay Area. Tonight’s game could prove to be a critical swing in this series matchup between the two teams with the best records in baseball. The MLB betting odds have dubbed the home squad a massive favorite in advance of this Giants vs Dodgers showdown.
This MLB betting preview for Giants vs Dodgers NLDS Game 3 includes game info, projected starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for this series-opening matchup.
NLDS Game 3 (Series tied 1-1)
San Francisco Giants (107-55, 53-28 Away) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (106-56, 58-23 Home)
Date: Monday, Oct. 11, 2021
Time: 9:37 p.m. EST
Venue: Dodgers Stadium — Los Angeles, CA
Coverage: TBS
Giants: Alex Wood (10-4, 3.83 ERA)
Dodgers: Max Scherzer (15-4, 2.46 ERA)
After Logan Webb through a 10-strikeout gem in the series-opener, the Giants’ pitching failed them in Game 2 of this NLDS matchup. Starter Kevin Gausman pitched an effective first five innings, allowing only one run. Unfortunately, things snowballed on him in the sixth. The Giants also only managed six total hits in the 9-2 defeat. Three of those belonged to catcher Buster Posey, who clearly hasn’t forgotten how to perform under the bright lights of October. Brandon Crawford also had a pair of hits and drove in a run. The Giants need the rest of their lineup to get going again in tonight’s Game 3.
Drawing the start tonight for Gabe Kapler’s club will be left-hander, Alex Wood. The veteran was largely effective for San Francisco this season, winning ten games and posting a 1.18 WHIP. However, he could face an uphill task in this MLB betting contest. The Giants lost each of Wood’s three regular-season starts against the Dodgers. He never made it beyond six innings pitched in any game. Most recently, Wood surrendered three runs and six hits over five innings of work in a late-July loss to L.A.
After the Dodgers’ lineup served as little more than Logan Webb’s punching bag in game one, Los Angeles responded in a big way to win Game 2. NL Wild Card Game hero Chris Taylor scored three runs and had a pair of hits, as did A.J. Pollack. Catcher Will Smith went yard, and eight of the Dodgers nine starters had a hit. That included pitcher Julio Urias, who struck out five over five solid innings. Los Angeles will look to keep the bats hot in tonight’s MLB betting showdown.
Making his second start of the postseason tonight for Dave Roberts will be Max Scherzer. The likely NL Cy Young Award winner had his hands more than full with the St. Louis Cardinals in the Wild Card Game. Although he failed to make it through five full innings, Scherzer only allowed a run and was steady throughout. His presence as tonight’s Game 3 starter is a big reason why the Dodgers are such hefty MLB betting favorites. Oddly enough, Scherzer never had an opportunity to face the Giants during the regular season after being acquired at the trade deadline. He had one scheduled start against them back in June while still with the Washington Nationals, but had to leave that game in the first inning with an injury.
