Los Angeles Chargers (43.0%)
For years now, the Chargers have been a talent-laden defense that has regularly failed to meet expectations. Fortunately for all of us, “defensive guru” Brandon Staley is no longer calling the shots. In Week 1, the Bolts’ defense impressed under Jim Harbaugh and new coordinator, Jesse Minter. The Chargers chalked up four sacks and three takeaways while holding the rival Las Vegas Raiders to just ten points.
Based on that effort in the opener and the matchup on deck, it’s quite surprising that the Chargers are still available in well over half of leagues. Week 2 sees Los Angeles travel east to take on a lowly Carolina Panthers outfit. The Panthers added weapons in the offseason, but it certainly didn’t help Bryce Young any in the season opener. The Chargers make for an excellent fantasy football defense streamers option this week and beyond with several other favorable matchups upcoming.
Jacksonville Jaguars (42.9%)
Overall, it wasn’t an incredibly sexy performance from the Jaguars defense in Week 1. The final stat line included 400 yards allowed, three sacks and no takeaways. However, the fact that Jacksonville held a dangerous Miami Dolphins offense to only 20 points is noteworthy. This figures to be a solid all-around unit in 2024, and there is good reason for fantasy managers to consider utilizing the Jaguars as a D/ST streamer in Week 2.
The Jags will host the Cleveland Browns in their home opener on Sunday. Yes, these are the same Cleveland Browns that have Mr. Creep himself, Deshaun Watson, quarterbacking their offense. Despite optimism that this might finally be the year he returns to his old self, Watson was downright horrendous in Week 1. From a new lawsuit to contending with the DUUUVAL faithful, all signs point toward Watson rewarding those who stream the Jaguars’ defense this week.
Indianapolis Colts (7.4%)
Sometimes, injuries can result in a matchup becoming far more appealing for fantasy football defense streamers than it otherwise would be. That is precisely the case when it comes to the Colts in Week 2. In a vacuum, Indianapolis is largely expected to be an average defense or worse this season. The Colts wouldn’t be a great streamer most weeks, let alone in a matchup against the young, up-and-coming Green Bay Packers.
All of that changed when quarterback Jordan Love went down with an injury in Week 1. With Love set to miss the next month of action, the Packers’ lack of a contingency plan has been brought to the forefront. At the time of writing, Green Bay is poised to start Malik Willis, who is still largely unfamiliar with the offense and has never thrown for 100 yards in any prior NFL start. The Colts’ defense has incredible potential this week and can be obtained in even the deepest of leagues.
