Week 10 of this season unlike any other is upon us and we have four teams on a bye the Chiefs, Cowboys, Falcons, and Jets. We have some new COVID cases popping up this week, as per the usual for the times, so be sure to monitor your roster to make sure everyone is good to go and look for opportunities if you are in need of a spot starter. In this fantasy football start/sit article, we will be looking at players on the fringes at QB1, RB2 and WR2 in typical PPR fantasy leagues to help you win your matchup(s) this week.
Presenting your Week 10 starts and sits.
Week 10 Fantasy Football Start/Sit
Quarterbacks | Fantasy Football Start/Sit
Start: Drew Brees vs. 49ers
Last week Drew Brees got Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders back and the Saints proceeded to march in to Tampa Bay and put a beat down on the Buccaneers D which has been one of the toughest matchups for QBs this season. Brees has been a QB1 in five of his last six games and has thrown multiple TDs in all but one game this season, which was back in Week 2, his first week sans Thomas. The 49ers D has not been the same since losing Nick Bosa, Dee Ford, Richard Sherman, and now having traded away Kwon Alexander to the Saints this unit is a shell of what it was last season. Lock Brees in as a QB1 this week.
Start: Jared Goff vs. Seahawks
This sets up as a terrific spot for Jared Goff at home against the Seahawks D that is giving up 27.9 fantasy points per game (fppg) to opposing QBs which is worst in the league and from an efficiency standpoint they are fourth worst. The Seahawks also are averaging 34.3 points per game which is first in the league. This is the perfect equation for Goff who has put up no less than 21.6 fantasy points vs. the Seahawks in their last four matchups as well. Start Goff with confidence this week.
Sit: Joe Burrow at Steelers
Joe Burrow has averaged 19.4 fppg as a rookie QB and currently sits as the QB15 through eight games just behind Drew Brees and ahead of Ben Roethlisberger. The only rookie QB doing better is Justin Herbert who is putting up an astounding 25 fppg good for fourth in the league. This week though Burrow has a matchup in Pittsburgh and the Steelers D only gives up 16.9 fppg to opposing QBs and is third in defensive efficiency vs. the pass. In addition they have not allowed over 22 to a QB in any game this year. While Burrows future looks bright he is best left on benches this week.
Sit: Cam Newton at Ravens
Did you know that through seven games with the Patriots Cam Newton currently has a 2-7 TD to INT ratio? The only thing keeping him afloat as a QB option has been his 8 rushing TDs on the season. This week he has a tough matchup in Baltimore against the Ravens D which is only giving up 18.3 fppg to opposing QBs and is seventh in defensive efficiency vs. the pass. They have faced some good QBs throughout the season as well and have only given up 20+ fantasy points to Patrick Mahomes and Carson Wentz. Leave Newton on your bench this week in a tough spot.

Running Backs | Fantasy Football Start/Sit
Start: J.D. McKissic at Lions
With Alex Smith at the helm J.D. McKissic was targeted 14 times last week and he has been targeted 17 out of 49 attempts for Smith this season as well good for a 34.7% target share. That is incredible usage and it gives McKissic a safe floor in a matchup with the Lions D which is giving up 30.4 fppg to opposing RBs and has given up 413 yards and five TDs through the air to RBs. Antonio Gibson and McKissic will both get theirs this week with Gibson an RB1 while McKissic is an RB2.
Start: Zack Moss at Cardinals
After out touching Devin Singletary last week, 11-5, Zack Moss also scored his third TD in the last two weeks and brought his string of RB2 performances to three straight. While the matchup is not particularly great this is more based on Zack Moss continuing to assert himself as the back to own in Buffalo as he has out snapped Singletary last week for the first time this season which in addition to his goal line duties put him squarely in RB2 consideration going forward and definitely this week.
Sit: James White at Ravens
Do you think James White misses Tom Brady? Over the last couple of years White was the model of consistency as an RB2 in PPR leagues finishing last year with 11 RB2 performances in 14 starts. The last two years he had 87 and 72 receptions. This year he has been an RB2 twice in his six games played and is currently on pace for 50 receptions. As mentioned in the QB section Cam Newton has been fantasy relevant through his legs and that makes James White a sit against the Ravens D which has only given up 306 receiving yards and one TD to opposing RBs. Leave him on the bench.
Sit: Devin Singletary at Cardinals
Only once in the last five games has Devin Singletary scored double digits in PPR points and that was with some very beatable defenses on the schedule and with the backfield largely to himself prior to the last two weeks. Now Zack Moss is out snapping him and getting the goal line touches as well. In addition his receiving role has diminished too as he has only eight catches the last five weeks. Without receptions and goal line usage it makes it nearly impossible for Singletary to post an RB2 week without breaking off a long run. That is something I am not going to count on this week.
Wide Receivers| Fantasy Football Start/Sit
Start: Travis Fulgham at Giants
Travis Fulgham has put up 12 or more PPR points in five straight weeks including three weeks of WR1 production. Part of that is predicated on him scoring a TD in four out of five games but he has had ample targets with 41 over the last four weeks. This week it is looking like the Eagles will get Alshon Jeffery and Jalen Reagor back but Fulgham has at least one more week where you can expect WR2 production out of him and the matchup is a good one too. The Giants give up 25.7 fppg to opposing WR but they are fifth worst in pass defense efficiency. Fire up Fulgham this week one more time.
Start: Steelers WRs vs. Bengals
As long as Ben Roethlisberger tests negative for COVID prior to Sunday the Steelers have 3 WRs who should all finish in WR2 range. Last week JuJu Smith-Schuster led the way with 21.3 fantasy points and Chase Claypool had 15.3 and Diontae Johnson had 14.1. The Bengals only give up 24.2 fppg to opposing WR but efficiency wise they are in the bottom fourth of the league. As long as the Bengals can keep the game close enough that the Steelers can’t just deflate the ball and run out the second half each of these WRs make a fine play.
Sit: Marvin Jones Jr. vs. Football Team
The Lions are possibly going to be without the services of Kenny Golladay again this weekend as he deals with a hip injury. This would make Marvin Jones the de facto number one WR again this week and he has had a solid three game stretch with 13 or more PPR points in each but his lone WR2 or better performance of the year came when he put up two TDs against the Colts a couple of weeks ago. Here’s the catch, pun intended the Football Team is the toughest against opposing WRs allowing only 15.8 fppg to opposing WRs and they are most efficient against opponents passing games as well. Leave Jones on your bench this week.
Sit: Mike Williams vs. Dolphins
With the aforementioned Justin Herbert at QB for the Chargers Mike Williams has been highly inconsistent with two WR1 finishes and three finishes with three or fewer PPR points. This week he will draw Xavien Howard in coverage against what has turned into a top-8 Dolphins team in passing D efficiency. Look for Keenan Allen to continue to be targeted heavily, he is currently tied for second in the league with 86, and Hunter Henry, who has 53 on the year and Williams to only get a handful of targets here. Perhaps he can catch one for a TD but the only way he gets to a WR2 finish is with multiple TDs. Look elsewhere for your second WR.
