There are many great fantasy football waiver wire pickups in NFL Week 11, but one that may be going under the radar is rookie Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride. Following the Zach Ertz injury on Sunday, McBride is expected to be thrust into a much larger role going forward.

Tight ends are hit or miss in fantasy football, and there are very few options that you can trust on a weekly basis. No, the Trey McBride fantasy football performance this season hasn’t been something we can rely on right now. However, with a chance that his new role makes him reliable, McBride is among the best fantasy football waiver wire pickups, as long as you have a spot available.

Zach Ertz Injury Update

We just said there aren’t many fantasy TEs that you can trust this season. However, Ertz was one of them, ranking as TE3 in PPR scoring leagues this season. Unfortunately, we received a negative Zach Ertz injury update today, as he was ruled out for the season due to a knee injury suffered on Sunday.

Trey McBride Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickup in Week 11

Zach Ertz played only nine snaps on Sunday before leaving injured. After he left, only two other tight ends saw the field. Stephen Anderson played 25 snaps on the day while Trey McBride played 62 snaps. Opportunity leads to productivity in fantasy football, and it appears McBride is going to see a big opportunity.

Now, we always need to temper expectations for rookie TEs. The same is true for the Trey McBride fantasy football value going forward. However, that doesn’t mean he isn’t worth the fantasy football waiver wire pickup in Week 11.

This season, Zach Ertz ranks second in total targets for a TE, with 66, or 6.6 targets per game. That is a big hole in the offense that is now void. If McBride can carve out a role where he sees even four or five targets, he would clearly have TE1 potential. We must remember that he was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Colorado State. Now, the Cardinals will see if he can do it at the NFL level.

I personally feel it is a good idea to make the fantasy football waiver wire pickup of Trey McBride, if you are not fully confident in your starting TE going forward. The possibility of him becoming a reliable option is what you are betting on.
