Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 9 WRs

Start: Terry McLaurin Fantasy Outlook vs. Vikings

With Taylor Heinicke at the helm, Terry McLaurin has finished WR8 in Week 7 and WR22 in Week 8. Now, this week, he gets a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, who are giving up 30.9 fantasy points per game (fppg) to opposing WRs. McLaurin has eight targets in each of Heinicke’s starts, which have been the first two times all season where he has received at least a share of the most targets on the team.

With six teams on a bye, this fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em article suggests you start Terry McLaurin.

Start: JuJu Smith-Schuster Fantasy Outlook vs. Titans

Heading into the Kansas City Chiefs bye last week, JuJu Smith-Schuster had his two best games of the season, finishing as WR6 and WR5. Now, coming out of the bye week, he gets a matchup with the Tennessee Titans, who are giving up 32.6 fppg to opposing WRs. Even though the Chiefs acquired Kadarius Toney via a trade with the New York Giants, he likely won’t make much of an impact in this game. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a solid WR2 play this week with WR1 upside.

Sit: Brandin Cooks Fantasy Outlook vs. Eagles

Brandin Cooks has missed practice on both Tuesday and Wednesday this week after his trade request was not granted, so he may not even play tonight. Even if he does, he belongs on your bench. First off, he has only been a WR2 twice. Since Week 3, he has not seen more than seven targets in a game. After the Week 6 bye, he has five and six targets. Add a tough matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are only giving up 24.6 fppg to opposing WRs, and Cooks is not a start-worthy option.

Sit: Drake London Fantasy Outlook vs. Chargers

After starting off the season with 12.4, 24.6 and 14.4 fantasy points in his first three career starts, Drake London looked like he was going to be one of the rare rookie WRs to make a consistent impact out of the gate. Since that time, however, he has only averaged 5.4 fppg and his targets have been inconsistent in the Atlanta Falcons’ run first, run second and preferably run third offense. Even with a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, who are middle of the pack allowing 28.3 fppg to opposing WRs, and with a fifth of the league on bye this week, you simply can’t start London as anything more than a desperation flex play.
