With so many quarterbacks going down with injuries early this season, the wide receivers have been directly impacted in negative ways. We have seen Drake London struggle with multiple backups, while the Vikings receivers struggled last week as well, though the NFL weather made an impact there as well. Of course, then you have Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who has played at an MVP pace with Drew Lock. Anyways, let’s talk about our WR Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em this week.
Look, I am not here to say that Justin Jefferson or Amon-Ra St. Brown belong in your lineup. I hope you already know that. Instead, I will go over players you may actually have a question about. These are players you may debate on starting in your WR2/3 slot, or possibly your Flex position, depending on the weekly matchup. Below, I have two players I like and two more that I am nervous about.
Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here. You can also become a member to join a group chat with Zach Brunner and other members where all fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em questions are welcome!

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 3 WRs
Start: Adonai Mitchell Fantasy Outlook at Lions
Let’s kick off the Week 3 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em with Adonai Mitchell, the New York Jets’ WR2. The Jets’ coaches and Geno Smith shared glowing reviews for Mitchell prior to the season, and he has only impressed through two weeks. He has 60+ yards in both games. Both Geno and play-caller Frank Reich seemed to be confident in Mitchell this past week, giving him 12 targets in Week 2.
Mitchell’s role should continue to be prominent, especially in a perfect matchup against the Detroit Lions. First off, the Lions’ offense is putting up points, so the Jets likely will be trailing and needing to throw the ball. Additionally, the Lions’ secondary has been terrible, and it is only made worse by cornerback Avonte Maddox being ruled out for the year.
The Lions are tied for the second-most fantasy points allowed to WRs this season (44.5). The game’s 47.5 projected point total is also among the highest of the week, so look for the Jets’ offense to put up numbers, and Adonai Mitchell fantasy owners will be celebrating alongside that.
Start: Drake London Fantasy Outlook at Packers
It has been a tough start to the season for Drake London, trying to catch passes from backup quarterbacks. However, he looks ready to get his groove back on Thursday Night Football.
You can use the new Field General tool I created to see how usage and performance change depending on who is on or off the field. If you take a look at the Atlanta Falcons with Michael Penix Jr., you will notice that London sees a massive boost with Penix: +1.8 targets, +1.38 receptions, +18.6 receiving yards and +4.22 fantasy points per game. We will see if they pick up where they left off last season.
London will face off against the Green Bay Packers, who allowed 31 fantasy points to Justin Jefferson in Week 1 and 17 to Garrett Wilson last week. London (6-4) also sees a massive size advantage over the Packers’ top two cornerbacks, Keisean Nixon (5-10) and Brandon Cisse (5-11). While it has been a slow start, it’s important to remember that Drake London is among the best receivers in the NFL and is a true WR1.
Sit: Terry McLaurin Fantasy Outlook vs Seahawks
I admit that I have come across as a certified Terry McLaurin hater during his NFL career. In reality, I just don’t think he is good enough to be a team’s WR1. Defenses can take him out of the game relatively easily if there isn’t a significant rushing threat. His four receptions through two weeks prove that, and a matchup against the Seattle Seahawks doesn’t provide much confidence.
Oh, and Jayden Daniels is out with his elbow injury. In reality, the move to Marcus Mariota isn’t much of a passing downgrade for Washington, but he is less mobile, which will cause issues for the Commanders against a very tough Seahawks defense.
Seattle has been the toughest defense against fantasy wide receivers, allowing just 14.3 fantasy points per game. Of course, their opponents have contributed to this high ranking. Still, Washington’s projected point total of 16.75 suggests there won’t be much offensive success, and Terry McLaurin doesn’t do enough damage in short or intermediate routes to be effective against Seattle.
Sit: Rome Odunze Fantasy Outlook vs Eagles
It looks to be tough sledding for Rome Odunze on Monday Night Football, landing him on the wrong side of our Week 3 Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em.
We have seen the Philadelphia Eagles shut down opponents’ WR1s this season: Terry McLaurin (14 yards) and Carnell Tate (27). On the outside for the Chicago Bears, Odunze looks to be the next victim of Vic Fangio’s defense.
It hasn’t been a fruitful season for Odunze so far anyways, posting seven PPR points in both games. As of Thursday morning, we still don’t know who will be throwing Rome Odunze the ball either. Caleb Williams bruised his cervix, and Tyson Bagent is in concussion protocol, so it could be Case Keenum starting for Chicago in a prime-time game. Hooray!
