The popularity of fantasy football IDP leagues (individual defensive player) is on the rise. It adds a layer of complexity to fantasy leagues, and it means you have to play both sides of the ball. It can be tough to project IDP value for many, which is why I help you with my top-five rankings every week (going for the top spot this season).
For those of you who set your lineups using my fantasy football IDP rankings last year, you are very familiar with Carson Schwesinger. The rookie for the Cleveland Browns had a phenomenal season, racking up 156 tackles, two interceptions and 2.5 sacks. It led to him finishing 10th in overall IDP scoring, benefiting from Cleveland’s loss of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.
Many were unsure how a potential JOK return would impact Schwesinger. Well, after the most recent Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah injury update, I don’t think we will have to concern ourselves with this potential scenario.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah Injury Update
It has been so long since Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has played football, so we have to go back quite a while to refresh everyone on this injury. The Browns’ talented, young linebacker had come off a 101-tackle, Pro Bowl season that earned him a three-year, $37.5M contract.
Unfortunately, in October 2024, JOK collided with Derrick Henry and injured his neck. He was initially hospitalized for the injury. Recently, Browns general manager Andrew Berry said he wasn’t “overly optimistic” about Owusu-Koramoah playing in the 2026 season. Shortly after, we received a big update.
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, 26, was placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for the second straight year. This means he will be out for the entire season. This is terrible news for JOK and Cleveland Browns fans. It is, however, the clarity that fantasy football IDP owners have been looking for.
Carson Schwesinger Fantasy Football IDP Value Rises
We discussed how good the rookie season for Carson Schwesinger was. Still, it cannot be talked about enough. He earned the Defensive Rookie of the Year award, helping to lead a very solid Browns defense. Fast forward to now, and there is plenty of reason to believe that he can build upon such a strong year.
The majority of fantasy football IDP value is derived from tackles. Schwesinger is a tackle machine, racking up 156 during his rookie season. He ended the year as strong as you could’ve as well, totaling 92 tackles, one interception and 1.5 sacks in the eight games from Weeks 10-17. The rookie ranked second overall in fantasy football IDP scoring over this span.
It was a recipe for success in Cleveland for Carson Schwesinger. Despite the Browns’ opponents running the eighth-fewest offensive plays per game, they ran the 11th-most rushing plays. The reasons for that are simple. For one, their opponents often played with a lead. The other reason was Myles Garrett’s presence was terrifying, so quarterbacks would rather hand it off instead of letting Garrett tee off on them.
The big loss for the Browns this offseason was defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. This is a massive loss that will likely lead to the defense playing worse, but that’s not a bad thing for Carson Schwesinger’s fantasy football IDP value. If the defense forces fewer “three-and-outs,” then they will be on the field for more plays. The run-pass split should stay the same, meaning Schwesinger will see more opportunities to get tackles.
Hardy Nickerson has the single-season tackle record of 214. Could Schwesinger flirt with those numbers?
