The 2026 NFL Draft is quickly approaching, and every outlet and analyst is creating NFL mock drafts. It is an interesting draft class, to say the least. In previous seasons, we have seen incredible wide receiver prospects who enter the league and immediately make an impact. That may not be the case this season.
The wide receiver group in this draft class is deep, but it is not considered to be incredibly talented at the very top. Regardless, wide receiver is such a premium position, so we will see several go in the first round, so the team can get that valuable fifth-year team option. The first receiver expected off the board is Carnell Tate, who has been a polarizing player during this draft process.
The Ohio State wide receiver ran a slow 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. However, when pads are on, he is clearly a talented prospect whose speed you wouldn’t question. Still, this inconsistency in testing has the Carnell Tate draft projection a little bit different depending on who you ask. Let’s take a look at expert NFL mock drafts around the industry, seeing where Tate is projected to be selected in the first round.
Carnell Tate Draft Projection | NFL Mock Drafts 2026
The Athletic’s Mock Draft: New Orleans Saints Draft Carnell Tate (8th)
The Athletic’s NFL mock draft from Dane Brugler has Carnell Tate going eighth overall to the New Orleans Saints. After trading away Rashid Shaheed, the Saints are in need of a WR2, and Tate can fill that role.
ESPN’s Mock Draft: Cleveland Browns Draft Carnell Tate (6th)
In Jordan Reid’s mock draft from ESPN, he has the Cleveland Browns being the first team to draft a wide receiver. The Browns get Tate, keeping him in the state of Ohio, where he would undoubtedly be a fan favorite immediately.
CBS’ Mock Draft: New Orleans Saints Draft Carnell Tate (8th)
This CBS mock draft from Mike Renner also has the Saints taking Tate at eighth. While it is still a top-10 pick, this is the lowest we are seeing Tate go among these expert NFL mock drafts, suggesting he will not be waiting very long.
NFL Network Mock Draft: Cleveland Browns Draft Carnell Tate (6th)
In Bucky Brooks’ latest NFL Network mock draft, he has the Browns select Carnell Tate with the sixth overall draft pick. Jerry Jeudy has not lived up to expectations in Cleveland, but it’s possible he could thrive with the addition of Tate on the outside. His presence alone will draw more attention than any other current Cleveland receiver.
FlurrySports Mock Draft: Washington Commanders Draft Carnell Tate (7th)
The FlurrySports NFL mock draft has the Cleveland Browns trading their draft pick, letting Carnell Tate slide to seventh to be drafted by the Washington Commanders. Tate would finally give Washington a respected second receiver to play alongside Terry McLaurin, opening the field up for Jayden Daniels.
