Tribute to Ricky Hendrick
Kyle Larson earned his first win as a Hendrick Motorsports driver at Las Vegas last weekend. While Larson is writing one heck of a comeback story in his own right after being suspended and ultimately fired last season, this most recent win was bigger than him.
Larson is driving the #5 car for Hendrick this year. Of course, this was the same car and number that Ricky Hendrick made famous racing in what is now the NASCAR Xfinity Series. What’s more, in the age of sponsorships and advertising in sports (with NASCAR being no exception), Larson scored the win this past week in the very same powder blue with red and white trim paint scheme that Hendrick used to race with.
Add it all up and it was a pretty cool moment for Larson, Team Hendrick and NASCAR fans alike. While looking back on Larson’s victory, we decided to pay our own respects to the late Ricky Hendrick on this week’s episode of Burnt Rubber Racing.
