The Major League Baseball World Series continues on Wednesday with Game 2 between the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros. Last night’s series-opener had a little bit of everything. While the Braves emerged victorious as MLB betting underdogs, they also lost one of their top starting pitchers, Charlie Morton, for the remainder of the series. Because of this, one could argue that getting out to a 2-0 series lead is even more important for Atlanta tonight. Of course, the last thing Houston wants to do is drop the first two games of the World Series at home. The MLB betting odds view tonight’s Braves vs Astros showdown as a virtual toss-up.

This MLB betting preview for Braves vs Astros World Series Game 2 includes game info, projected starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for tonight’s matchup.

    Atlanta Braves Preview

The Braves’ offense came out of the gates clicking on all cylinders in Game 1 of the World Series on Tuesday night. Making his first start since a stint on the infamous virus list, Jorge Soler smacked a leadoff home run to set the tone for the evening. Fellow trade deadline acquisition Adam Duvall also went yard in the third inning. All nine Atlanta starters finished with at least one hit in the game. Soler, Ozzie Albies and NLCS MVP Eddie Rosario each had two hits apiece. Charlie Morton got off to a strong start on the mound before exiting the game in the third inning with an injury. He was diagnosed with a fractured fibula and will miss the remainder of the World Series. The early exit put the onus on the Braves’ bullpen earlier than expected. Southpaw A.J. Minter came up huge, allowing just one run in 2.2 innings of relief.

Manager Brian Snitker will turn to arguably his top starting pitcher in Game 2 of this MLB betting series tonight. Left-hander Max Fried will look to rebound from a disappointing performance in Game 5 of the NLCS. In his two postseason starts prior to that, Fried dominated both the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers. He posted a 3.04 ERA and 1.09 WHIP on the season. After being forced to go to the bullpen early last night, Snitker and the Braves are undoubtedly hoping for a quality start out of Fried in Game 2.

    Houston Astros Preview

After falling behind 5-0 through three innings, the Astros just could not recover to ever truly climb back into things last night. Kyle Tucker scored the team’s first run in the bottom of the fourth to at least offer a glimmer of hope. Unfortunately, Houston failed to score again until the eighth. The Astros finished with eight hits for the game, but seven came courtesy of just three players. Michael Brantley had a three-hit performance while both Tucker and Yuli Gurriel had two apiece. Yordan Alvarez recorded the team’s other hit and scored a run to continue his red-hot postseason at the plate. Inconsistent offense throughout the lineup along with a rough outing from starter Framber Valdez doomed the home team in Game 1 of this MLB betting series.

The Astros’ quest for the franchise’s second World Series title in five years resumes tonight. Dusty Baker will turn to Jose Urquidy as his Game 2 starting pitcher. The right-hander has only pitched once in the postseason to date and it wasn’t pretty. Urquidy allowed six runs to the Boston Red Sox and failed to make it out of the second inning. While he finished the regular season with a respectable 3.62 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, Urquidy simply hasn’t been the same pitcher since missing two months with an injury.
