Looking at the best college football bets for Week 4 of the NCAA season. This week includes Michigan against Nebraska.
Week 4 of the college football season brings several big-time matchups that could shape the playoff landscape. Tulane hits the road looking for its third Power 4 win on the season, Illinois travels to Indiana for a top-20 showdown, and Nebraska looks to stamp itself as ‘back” with a home showdown against Michigan.
Here are the three best college football bets that I am looking at for Week 4 of the NCAA season.
Best College Football Bets For Week 4
Tulane at No. 13 Ole Miss
Tulane and Ole Miss each come into the matchup at 3-0. The Green Waves have a pair of Power 4 wins over Northwestern and Duke, while Ole Miss comes in with two SEC wins over Kentucky and Arkansas.
Tulane is led by BYU transfer Jake Retzlaff at the quarterback position. Retzlaff has been stellar in the early season, leading the Green Wave in passing and rushing. He threw for 245 yards and rushed for 111 yards with four touchdowns in the win over Duke last weekend.
Ole Miss is expected to get starting quarterback Austin Simmons back this week. He is coming off an ankle injury, so keep an eye on that. But the Rebels have a very capable backup in Trinidad Chambliss. Last week, he finished with a pair of rushing touchdowns and a touchdown through the air in the win over Arkansas.
These are two very good teams, and this game means a lot for Tulane’s playoff hopes, as it is the last Power 4 school on their schedule. I expect the game to be high scoring with two prolific offenses, but I like Tulane to cover on the road against Ole Miss.
Best College Football Bets: Tulane +11.5
No. 9 Illinois at No. 19 Indiana
There might not be a bigger college football game on this weekend’s slate than the top-20 showdown in Bloomington. The winner of this game puts themselves in a great position in the Big Ten football playoff race.
Indiana comes in at 3-0, but they haven’t played a team with a pulse this year. They have beaten up on Old Dominion, Kennesaw State and Indiana State. The Illinois schedule hasn’t been much tougher, but the Illini do have a road win over Duke, 45-19, in Week 2.
This has all the makings of an instant classic. The Indiana crowd is going to be rocking with this being the program’s first top-20 home game in 38 years. I think this one comes down to the play of Luke Altmyer and Fernando Mendoza. I think both will play well, but Illinois has already played a road game this year at Duke, so I trust the senior leader, Altmyer, to make enough plays with his arm and legs to keep this one close and possibly even pull out the road.
Best College Football Bets: Illinois +5.5
No. 21 Michigan at Nebraska
This is another important college football game in the Big Ten, as Michigan travels to Lincoln to take on the 3-0 Nebraska Cornhuskers. Nebraska hasn’t played a tough schedule this year, with its only test being the opener against Cincinnati. Michigan did play on the road against Oklahoma, and even though the score was 24-13, the game wasn’t that close.
I am not sure how good either of these two teams is, currently. They’ve beaten up on the bad teams and struggled against the tougher teams they’ve played.
Michigan freshman Bryce Underwood has been inconsistent this year, and heading on the road to a sold-out stadium in Lincoln, I expect him to look like a freshman in this one. Dylan Raiola has played well so far, throwing for 829 yards, eight touchdowns and zero interceptions over three games.
Give me the home team to cover and possibly win outright, officially putting Nebraska back on the map!
