The combination of a strong public perception for the Bengals and a quarterback injury for the Jets led to a massive shift from the original opening number. Will the road team be able to cover as a double-digit favorite in this Bengals vs Jets contest?

The following Bengals vs Jets NFL betting preview will give you the current odds, betting trends and picks for the Week 8 matchup, along with a stream link to watch games all season long.

Cincinnati Bengals Preview

Not many NFL betting analysts would have projected the Bengals to be the top seed in the AFC after seven weeks of play. Well, that is exactly the scenario that has transpired. For the second time this season, Cincinnati went on the road and beat an AFC North Division rival outright last week. The win came in blowout fashion over a red-hot Baltimore Ravens team. Many are now believing the Bengals to be for real following this result. Joe Burrow carved up the Ravens’ defense, finishing with a whopping 416 yards passing and three scores. Rookie first-round pick Ja’Marr Chase continued a historic start to his NFL career with over 200 yards receiving on the day and a touchdown. The two have picked up right where they left off in college at LSU here in the pros.

While much of the praise from the public and “experts” has been directed towards Burrow and Cincinnati’s offense, the defense might be the biggest key to the impressive start. The Bengals shut down a Baltimore offensive attack that had largely looked unstoppable in recent weeks. Pass-rusher Trey Hendrickson recorded yet another sack and continues to be one of the most underrated free-agent signings of the offseason. All told, the Bengals sacked Lamar Jackson five times last week. Cincinnati ranks fifth overall in adjusted defensive efficiency according to Football Outsiders. They should be able to dominate a very poor Jets offensive line in Sunday’s NFL betting matchup.

New York Jets Preview

While many are rushing out to back the Bengals at the betting window following last week’s statement win, this line move has a lot to do with the uphill climb facing Robert Saleh and the Jets as well. Rookie franchise quarterback Zach Wilson got knocked out of last week’s blowout loss to the New England Patriots with a knee injury. The timetable for him to return is set around three-four weeks. While the Jets did trade for veteran Joe Flacco this week, they announced that former Western Kentucky signal-caller, Mike White, would start Sunday’s NFL betting contest against the Bengals. White came on in relief of Wilson last week to take his first-ever regular-season snaps. While he hit Corey Davis for a touchdown on the possession he inherited, he also threw two interceptions in an ugly game all around for New York.

With the playbook likely to be downsized, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see running backs Michael Carter and Ty Johnson heavily involved on Sunday. In addition, Davis is trending toward missing Sunday’s game with a hip injury. Jamison Crowder could emerge as the top WR target for White working the slot. If New York is to have any chance of covering the NFL betting spread as double-digit home dogs, the defense will have to step up. In their last home game, the Jets D did just that as they shocked the Tennessee Titans. It has been very ugly in the two games since. The young secondary will be tested by the Bengals’ array of wideouts. However, this could be the first time since Week 3 that the Jets will have both linebacker C.J. Mosley and safety Marcus Maye active for the same game.
