Auburn vs Creighton Prediction | March Madness Expert Picks
The Auburn Tigers were able to handle business against Alabama State and avoid the dreaded 1/16 upset. They were able to succeed without a huge game from Johni Broome. Miles Kelly was the Tigers leading scorer, nailing seven-of-15 three point attempts. Tahaad Pettiford aided in the strong perimeter game from Auburn making two three-point shots and scoring 16 points. While Broome was not as heavily used, he was still able to find his way inside, scoring 14 points. What was nice to see for the Tigers was the play of Chaney Johnson. He scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting in relief of Broome. While it would be nice to see Chad Baker-Mazara score more than three points on one-of-nine shooting, it just goes to show how good this Auburn team is when everyone plays together.
For Creighton, the Bluejays pulled off the 8/9 upset in the first game of the tournament, by way of their perimeter defense. The Bluejays held Louisville to 29% shooting from behind the three-point line. They are going to have to continue that strong defense to pull off the upset in this game. On offense, it was Jamiya Neal who had the strong game, scoring 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the field. Steven Ashworth added 22 points on four made three-point shots. Ryan Kalkbrenner was the third leading scorer of the game with 14 points.
The Bluejays certainly have the player to neutralize Broome in Kalkbrenner, but given Broome’s excellent post play, Kalkbrenner will be in foul trouble. If the Blujays lose Kalkbrenner for any sort of extended time, they will crumble inside, giving Auburn the opportunity to rush guards.
