The Houston Astros took a commanding 2-0 lead over the Seattle Mariners with a win in Astros vs Mariners Game 2. Once again, a Yordan Alvarez home run gave the Astros the lead that they would never relinquish. With a 2-0 series lead for Houston, the series shifts to Seattle in what will for sure be one of the loudest crowds this MLB Playoffs. Can the Astros sweep the Mariners, or will the Mariners fight back?

This MLB betting preview for the ALDS MLB Playoffs Astros vs Mariners Game 3 includes game info, starting pitchers, betting odds, trends and a prediction for tonight’s postseason matchup.

    Astros vs Mariners Starting Pitchers

Astros: Lance McCullers Jr. (4-2, 2.27 ERA)
Mariners: George Kirby (8-5, 3.39 ERA)

    Houston Astros Preview

As was the case in Game 1, the Astros’ offense was a little lackluster for long periods of time. A Yordan Alvarez home run in the sixth inning however gave them a 3-2 lead that they would hold until the end of the game. With a 2-0 series lead, the Astros have a chance to end the Mariners’ season if they can win on Saturday.

Lance McCullers Jr. may have plenty of playoff experience, but he has been wildly inconsistent from year to year. In 2020, McCullers Jr. started three games and went 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA. Last season however, he went 1-0 in two starts and posted a 0.84 ERA. If the 2021 version comes back on Saturday, this series is as good as over. With the way their offense is going, this game will be decided with how McCullers Jr. performs early on.

    Seattle Mariners Preview

This is the Seattle Mariners’ last chance. Had they been able to simply get another strike in Game 1, they’d be looking to take the lead in the series on Saturday. Instead, Seattle has to fight to stay alive. Seattle’s offense has started to cool off a little bit at the worst possible time. The Mariners have scored just three runs in the past 14 innings and they will need to do much better than that if they want a shot in Game 3.

George Kirby is a solid pitcher and put on a solid showing this season. With that in mind, he’s only a 24-year old rookie who has the weight of an entire city on his shoulders. This is going to be the biggest start of his career and we’ll see if he has the ability to compete mentally.
