Arkansas vs UConn Prediction | Sweet 16 March Madness Expert Picks and Bracketology

Arkansas gained substantial respect from the betting public after knocking off top-seeded Kansas in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. As a result, the Razorbacks have managed to accumulate nearly half of all ATS tickets for their Sweet 16 showdown against UConn. Perhaps the most interesting part of this matchup is that the 4-seed Huskies are laying roughly the same line as the 1-seed Jayhawks were when they lost to Eric Musselman’s team last weekend.

All season long, Connecticut has been one of the most highly power-rated teams in college basketball. Thus far, the Huskies have done nothing to discredit the betting market’s opinion in the NCAA Tournament. If anything, last Sunday’s second-half blowout of Saint Mary’s just made Dan Hurley’s team look like one capable of winning a national championship.

UConn has the talent and depth to beat any team in the country on a given night. From dominant big man Adama Sanogo to the backcourt tandem of Tristen Newton and Jordan Hawkins, the Huskies can come at teams from all over the floor. In the first weekend of March Madness, UConn’s bench also showed up in a big way. If that continues on Thursday, it could be a long night for Arkansas’ defense.

The Razorbacks will likely try to speed up the pace of this game as opposed to trying to run offensive sets against the wall that is UConn’s defense. However, even if the Hogs are successful in doing so, it’s tough to rely on them to hit shots consistently. Sanogo figures to also be a major problem in the post and on the boards for what is a guard-dominated Arkansas lineup.

For what it’s worth, the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives UConn a 66.0% chance to win.
