Aces vs Wings WNBA Betting Game Preview
Las Vegas Aces Preview
The Aces enter Thursday’s matchup with a 2.5-game lead atop the Western Conference standings. Las Vegas is also only one game back of Chicago for the best record in the entire WNBA. With the Aces and Sky looking like the prohibitive favorites to meet in the 2022 WNBA Finals, securing the No. 1 seed in the playoffs and home court advantage is certainly ideal. The Aces stumbled in their quest to do just that on Tuesday when they suffered a road loss to Washington.
Of course, no team in the league has been able to match the Aces offensively this season. With a star-studded lineup led by Kelsey Plum, A’ja Wilson, Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray, the Aces have achieved an offensive rating that is three points higher than any other team entering Thursday’s WNBA betting matchup. The big concern for Las Vegas as the playoffs draw near is a lack of scoring depth. This was fully on display in Tuesday’s defeat. The Aces’ “Big Four” accounted for all but five of the team’s 73 total points in the game.
Dallas Wings Preview
The Wings enter tonight’s WNBA betting contest off of an impressive road win over the aforementioned standings leader, Chicago. Dallas has won three of its last four games overall, a positive sign for what has been one of the league’s most inconsistent teams in 2022. Making Tuesday’s victory over the Sky all the more impressive was that the Wings pulled it out minus leading scorer Arike Ogunbowale. The Wings lead a pack of six teams that are all within three games of each other in the race for the final three playoff spots.
Interestingly enough, the Wings are only 5-9 straight up when playing at home this season. That mark will need to improve if they are to secure a playoff spot. In addition, Ogunbowale is questionable to play tonight after missing Tuesday’s game with an ankle injury. Her presence is something to monitor ahead of making an Aces vs Wings prediction. If Ogunbowale is ruled out, Dallas will hope that Marina Mabrey (26 points) and Teaira McCowan (20 points, 12 rebounds) can replicate their impressive showings from a couple of days ago.

Aces vs Wings Prediction
While the Aces are still battling for the No. 1 overall seed in the WNBA Playoffs, the fact that Las Vegas has already secured its spot in the postseason could impact intensity down the stretch. Contrast this situation to that of Dallas which has yet to clinch a playoff berth and motivation/urgency could be a factor in Thursday’s Aces vs Wings prediction.
The Aces have largely achieved positive results over the past few weeks. However, it’s worth noting that several of their recent games have come against inferior competition. Excluding a road win over Connecticut and the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Final against Chicago, one would have to go all the way back to the month of May to find the last time that Las Vegas beat a team with a winning record!
Despite these concerns regarding the quality of their wins, the Aces continue to be power rated higher than almost every other team. When it comes to recent head-to-head matchups against the Wings, however, that high power rating has proven irrelevant. In addition to covering the betting spread in two previous meetings against the Aces this season, Dallas is 5-1 ATS in the last six head-to-head matchups overall.
The fact that the Wings overcame the absence of Arike Ogunbowale to beat Chicago outright inspires further confidence that they can stay within the WNBA betting spread at home this evening.
Aces vs Wings Prediction: Wings +8.5 (-112 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
