Ashton Jeanty Scouting Report
Strengths
It might be obvious to say, but Ashton Jeanty’s biggest strength is running with incredible vision. When a hole opens, it is very rare that Jeanty misses it. And when he hits it, he has shown a penchant for using a quick burst to get to the second level, then outrunning everyone on the field. On top of his burst, Jeanty is an intelligent runner, being able to cut back and get around defenders in very limited space.
His balance and ability to run low very effectively allow him to play fast and under control. When building a running back in a lab, it is likely that how you want them to run will somewhat resemble what we see out of Jeanty.
Weaknesses
While it is hard to say that Jeanty needs to improve in a certain spot after putting together one of the best seasons in college football history, the obvious is how big his workload was last season. While that is not necessarily a physical trait, it does give a little worry surrounding injury and an overabundance of opportunities to inflate numbers.
In regards to physical traits, Jeanty’s tight hips will cause some pause when trying to make sharp cuts at the next level. Given that he was given the ball almost every time he was on the field, pass blocking will need to be key to find an every-down role in the NFL.
