3 Minnesota Vikings Free Agency Targets and Team Needs

3 Minnesota Vikings Free Agency Targets and Team Needs

After an impressive 2024 regular season where they finished with a 14-3 record, the Minnesota Vikings were thought to be one of the teams to look out for in the NFL Playoffs. Unfortunately for Vikings fans, they fell flat on their face in a 27-9 rout at the hands of the Los Angeles Rams in the Wild Card. After yet another quick exit in the playoffs, the attention shifts toward the Minnesota Vikings’ free agency targets.

With injuries not playing much of a role in why Minnesota was bounced early in the playoffs, the Vikings were clearly shown their weaknesses that most need to be addressed. With the same coaching staff coming back and the NFC North ripe for the taking with the losses of the Detroit Lions this offseason, now is the time for the Vikings to attack. Here are three Minnesota Vikings free agency targets to help them contend for a Super Bowl.

Minnesota Vikings Team Needs | NFL Free Agency 2025

Despite being one of the better teams in the NFL last season, the Minnesota Vikings have plenty of needs heading into NFL Free Agency:

  1. Offensive Guard
  2. Quarterback
  3. Running Back
  4. Cornerback
  5. Offensive Tackle

Minnesota Vikings Free Agency Targets

Teven Jenkins, G

Simply put, Teven Jenkins is a mean dude who will try to bury anyone you put in front of him. The Vikings play a nasty brand of football defensively but could use some more of those types of players on the offensive side as well. The Vikings need starters and depth on the offensive line badly and Jenkins could slot right in at one of the guard positions for them.

Jenkins might not be a perennial Pro Bowl-caliber player, but he is a guy you can plug into the starting lineup and not have to worry about. With the two-headed monster of Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison at receiver as well, he won’t need to block for too long anyway with competent quarterback play.

Najee Harris, RB

Even if Aaron Jones does come back to Minneapolis, the Vikings have a running back problem. With it appearing that Jones won’t be coming back, the Vikings have a dire problem at running back. The only other running backs Minnesota had last year of note were Cam Akers and Ty Chandler. While both running backs are solid as change-of-pace options, neither can be a full-time starter in the NFL.

While many people like to slander Harris for his sometimes lack of “game-breaking” ability, he is as consistent as they come. Since being drafted out of Alabama in 2021, Harris has run for over 1,000 yards in each of his four seasons in the NFL. That is even more impressive when you factor in the fact that he was playing for a Pittsburgh Steelers team that has struggled to run the ball at all for long periods of time during his tenure due to bad offensive line and quarterback play. In Minneapolis, Harris would instantly be paired with a genius offensive mind in Kevin O’Connell and a better offensive line assuming they address it this offseason.

Rasul Douglas, CB

If there is one thing the Minnesota Vikings love to do it’s bring in former Green Bay Packers players. One player that would not only hurt Packers fans, but would improve the team as well, would be Rasul Douglas. While Minnesota’s secondary isn’t “bad” per se, it isn’t good either. Douglas has proven himself at the position and would help the Vikings right out of the gate.

Currently, the Vikings have Stephon Gilmore and Shaquill Griffin as their top two cornerbacks and they have virtually no depth behind them. While Griffin isn’t good enough to be a CB2 in the league, he would definitely be a serviceable third option. Douglas would help the Vikings get depth in their secondary which would allow them to use some capital on cornerbacks later in the draft and see if they can develop them to be his replacement in a few years as well.
