Kansas led Samford 63-41 with just over 16 minutes left in the second half and the game looked all but over. Instead, they allowed Samford to come all the way back and needed a very controversial call to seal a close win over the Bulldogs. Kansas shot well from the field, but their lack of depth was a glaring issue as they only had six players log more than three minutes.
Gonzaga on the other hand looked good the entire game. The Bulldogs had multiple players off the bench contribute meaningful minutes and were able to have multiple players contribute offensively. Gonzaga got great looks all game and also had one of their best games of the year defensively, limiting McNeese to just 33% shooting from the field and 22% from behind the arc.
While the Kansas Jayhawks certainly have the firepower in their starting lineup, they don’t have the depth keep up with Gonzaga if this game goes down to the wire. The Bulldogs are too deep and will certainly be able to play better defense than Samford did for most of the game.
