Group A
Group A consists of Team Liquid, 2017 The International winner, Team Spirit from the CIS qualifier, the Chinese giant, Newbee, and the newly revamped Natus Vincere. On paper, the group stage shouldn’t be a hurdle for Team Liquid as they have proved to be the better team than others that’s in the group. The only possible team that will give them a little nuisance is Newbee, albeit their current lack of form. Newbee and Team Liquid have a history between them with the latter defeating the former to win The International 2017. Natus Vincere with their new line up will try to surprise everyone as the group stage will be their debut. Team Spirit will also trying to prove that they are the one of the strongest team from The CIS.
Prediction:
- Team Liquid
- Natus Vincere
- Newbee

Group B
Group B can be considered the group of hell of the Supermajor. This group housed Virtus Pro, the leader of DPC ranking, TNC Predator, the SEA qualifier winner, the team that shockingly changed its roster, Evil Geniuses, and China’s unpredictable wild card, Vici Gaming. All teams in here have a certain element of unpredictability in them. Virtus Pro is probably the most stable one in here shouldn’t have any problem proving why they are ranked first in the DPC ranking. Evil Geniuses with newcomer Gustav “s4” Magnusson and Tal “Fly” Aizik will prove that Evil Geniuses belong in the top tier of Dota. TNC Predator being the underdog in the group will no doubt bring the surprise factor into the mix while Vici Gaming, having the home crowd advantage, surely brings a somewhat morale boost to them.
Prediction:
- Virtus Pro
- Evil Geniuses
- TNC Predator
- Vici Gaming
Group C
Group C is probably the most balanced group in the group stage. They all have little to no difference in talented players in each of their line ups. The group consists of Team Secret, fourth in DPC ranking, The Swedish team, The Final Tribe, winner of Europe qualifier, SEA’s finest, Mineski, and the up and coming VGJ. Storm. Team Secret will face a hard time in this group, as Mineski and VGJ. Storm has a solid track record against them. The Final Tribe is the dark horse in this group and their unpredictability is their greatest weapon to clinch the winner bracket. VGJ. Storm with their stellar string of form and well balanced roster is currently one of the strongest team in the tournament. Mineski will try to raise their morale after recent controversies regarding IceIceIce and lack of tournament participation.
Prediction:
- VGJ. Storm
- Team Secret
- Mineski
- The Final Tribe
Group D
Group D consists of PSG.LGD, the most successful football club-owned esport division in Dota 2, OpTic Gaming, one of the strongest team from North America region, VGJ. Thunder, the Chinese brother of VGJ. Storm, and Infamous, winner of South American qualifier. The charm of this group is the clash for the second and third spot in the group, as PSG.LGD will most likely qualified with ease and Infamous will face a tough time in the group. VGJ. Thunder proves to be a strong team, placing eighth in the ranking and OpTic Gaming is following close placing ninth. They only have 135 points in difference between them, and the eighth spot is the last spot for a direct invite to The International.
