Packers Compare Juwann Winfree to Davante Adams

This offseason saw the Green Bay Packers part ways with both Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling, leaving the wide receiver room looking a bit empty. After passing on the more NFL-ready prospects in the NFL Draft and signing the often-injured Sammy Watkins, there are many question marks regarding the Packers wide receiver corps. However, in a recent interview, Packers receiver Juwann Winfree says there isn’t anything to worry about, in a unique way.

Packers Compare Juwann Winfree to Davante Adams

Originally a sixth-round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2019 NFL Draft, Juwann Winfree has a flash about his game that had myself and others on Lombardi Sweep talking him up last season. Apparently, we weren’t the only people talking up Winfree, according to the man himself.

“They believe in me,” Winfree said. “They believe I can have a big role this year in this offense.” Obviously, the Packers wouldn’t tell Winfree he has no role on the team. However, he continued. “They always compare my game to 17. They see the similarities of our games, they point it out, they know what they have. I feel like I’ve been grooming these past two years and learning what it takes to be a winner and how to play at that high level. I think they believe I can help out.”

Like I said, I like what Juwann Winfree can do and believe he can develop into having an every-week role on this offense. But is he the next Davante Adams?

    Winfree’s Comments Don’t Inspire Confidence

Juwann Winfree, like other skill position players, needs to have supreme confidence in themselves, so his mindset is absolutely right where it needs to be. Yes, with Adams, MVS and Equanimeous St. Brown gone, it’s clear there are snaps and targets to go around. On top of that, the Packers drafted two wide receivers early that are very clearly projects and realistically shouldn’t be counted on to have great rookie seasons.

Still, Winfree saying don’t worry about the wide receiver depth because he, a 2021 practice squad player, is here to save the day doesn’t exactly inspire confidence. On top of that, who is comparing his game to Adams? I have my issues with Jason Vrable, wide receiver coach of the Packers. Still, even he likely isn’t calling for Winfree to be the next 17.

On an unrelated note, I made scrambled eggs this morning, and people are saying there are similarities to Gordon Ramsey. Sure, they were made in a styrofoam bowl in the microwave, but there’s potential there.
