Overwatch League: Week 2
The second week of the Overwatch League concluded on January 20, and a lot has changed since week one. The Valiant lost both of their matches after starting off 0-2, and the Outlaws did the contrary, going 2-0 in the second week of play.
The Leaders
Momentum continued for the Seoul Dynasty, as they swept both Florida and Boston in dominating fashion. This squad is absolutely on fire, and they don’t show any sing of stopping any time soon.
New York Excelsior took another two wins after sweeping Valiant 3-0 and Gladiators 4-0. They look to keep their streak going against Fusion and Dynasty in week 3.
Spitfire are the 3rd and final team to end up 4-0 after week two. They defeated Dallas 3-1, and had a very close contest against Valiant, in which they won 3-2.
The Outlaws moved into the top 4 this week, after going 2-0. They defeated both Dallas and Shanghai in dominating fashion. Both matches finished 4-0 in their favor, and their confidence is riding higher than ever.
Middle of the Pack
Valiant fell out of the top 4 this week, after falling to both Spitfire and Excelsior. This team is still one of the elites, but are going to need to find some fire to make sure they don’t fall out of contention in the next three weeks.
San Francisco Shock go 1-1 on the week. They started off the week with a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia, but took a victory against Boston in 3-2 fashion. This team had too very close games this week, but are going to need to improve a lot to compete with the best.
The Gladiators are currently holding the 7th place spot in the league with a 2-2 record. This week, they were able to take a 3-2 win against Fusion, but fell to Excelsior 4-0 on Saturday night. Gladiators are not a top team by any means, and are going to need a lot of improvement to be able to be a contender in the playoffs.
Fusion took the 8th spot in the current rankings this week, after finishing 1-1 in the second week of Overwatch League play. They defeated San Francisco 2-1 in the first match on Wednesday, and took a heartbreaking loss to the Gladiators.
Falling Behind
Boston Uprising is not on a good trend right now. They lost both of their matches this week, after falling to Seoul 4-0, and a close loss to San Francisco 3-2 in the last match of the week.
Florida earned their first win of the season, defeating Shanghai 4-0, but they then dropped a match in a 4-0 loss to Seoul. They are in a time of urgency, and they are going to need a lot more than a prayer to qualify for the playoffs.
The Dallas Fuel dropped their 2 matches this week, putting them in 11th place with an overall record of 0-4 on the season. They were swept by Houston to start the week, then faced off against London, where they were actually able to take off a map win. They still lost the series 1-3, but winning a map is a small but good victory for them against such a good team like London.
Shanghai continue their 0-10 quest. They are currently 0-4, and this week they were swept by Outlaws on Wednesday night, and, you guessed it, lost to Florida 4-0 on Friday. So, if you were wondering, they are indeed, still terrible.
