The Green Bay Packers are one of the few teams that will be getting better from a roster standpoint as we head deeper into the NFL Playoff schedule. Last week, Green Bay welcomed back David Bakhtiari and Josh Myers on the offensive line. A couple of All-Pro players in Jaire Alexander and Za’Darius Smith have also ramped up their practicing. Now, we got a surprising Whitney Mercilus injury update that Packer fans can’t help but smile at.
Whitney Mercilus Injury Update
The Green Bay Packers signed veteran pass-rusher Mercilus in late October, following the Texans releasing him. He played four games for the Packers, adding experience and talent off the edge. While he notched just the one sack, he generated 10 total pressures. However, what many thought was a season-ending biceps tear knocked him out.
The many were wrong. We got a beautiful Whitney Mercilus injury update on Thursday when the veteran was spotted at practice.
Mercilus has been designated to return to the field for the Packers. Now, this doesn’t mean he will play in the Divisional Round. Still, should the Packers continue to stack up wins at Lambeau Field, we likely have not seen the last snap of Whitney Mercilus in a Packer uniform.
The Packers will feature a pass-rusher rotation of Za’Darius Smith, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Whitney Mercilus and hopefully Tipa Galeai.

Green Bay Packers Playoffs Additions
As stated above, the Green Bay Packers are getting better from a roster standpoint during their bye week. Last week, they welcomed back rookie center Josh Myers and All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari. This adds two starters to the offensive line. Billy Turner is also a step closer to returning and could see the field sooner rather than later. These players returning is massive news for the Packers running game.
On defense, Za’Darius Smith seems to be ready to go for the Divisional Round, though we could see limited snaps from him. Jaire Alexander’s shoulder injury will truly be taken on a day-by-day basis, though we should see the All-Pro suit up in the NFL Playoffs. We’ll see how much mobility he’ll have with that arm, but he should be an improvement for our secondary nonetheless.
In short, Packer fans have plenty to feel good about right now.
