A pair of high-powered offenses will square off in this Week 3 NFL betting matchup between AFC West Division rivals. Both the Los Angeles Chargers and Kansas City Chiefs will be aiming to right the ship after each team suffered its first defeat of the season last weekend. At the same time, both squads were very close to starting the year 2-0 as the losses were by a combined four points. Despite high expectations for both, the home team has the NFL betting odds swung in their favor ahead of this contest.

The following Chargers vs Chiefs NFL betting preview will give you the current odds, betting trends, stream and picks for the Week 3 matchup.

    Los Angeles Chargers Preview

From a handicapping standpoint, quite a few NFL betting sharps missed on the Chargers Week 2 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys. A game that many projected to be a shootout was hardly that. Instead, a costly Justin Herbert interception in the end zone allowed the Cowboys to stay close and eventually kick a game-winning field goal to spring the outright upset. Herbert had a big day statistically, finishing with 338 yards passing. However, he had two picks and L.A. failed to finish off drives with points.

The Chargers’ top two receivers also had big statistical games. Keenan Allen led the team with 108 receiving yards while Mike Williams turned eight catches into 91 yards and a TD. Running back Austin Ekeler finished with 115 total yards on the afternoon. The Chargers’ defense played well for the second straight week, this time against a high-powered Dallas offense. Safety Derwin James is among the NFL betting favorites for Defensive Player of the Year after two weeks of play. Meanwhile, rookie corner Asante Samuel Jr. recorded his first career interception. The Week 2 result really felt like a tough-luck loss for Los Angeles given how the team played overall.

    Kansas City Chiefs Preview

Speaking of tough-luck losses, the Chiefs were victims of a similar fate in Week 2. Kansas City’s defense could not slow down the run-heavy attack of the Baltimore Ravens. As a result, Baltimore dominated in time of possession and pulled out a 36-35 come-from-behind victory. QB Patrick Mahomes was spectacular as always. Aside from throwing a single interception, there wasn’t much more he could’ve done better. The NFL betting favorite to win league MVP finished with 343 yards passing and a trio of scores. Tight end Travis Kelce led the way with 109 yards receiving and a TD.

While the Chiefs’ passing attack remains as potent as ever, the two-time AFC champs clearly have issues in other areas. The defensive woes speak for themselves. While it has only been two weeks, Kansas City ranks 28th in points allowed thus far. They are in serious danger of allowing a whole lot more against the promising Chargers offense this week. In addition, the Chiefs have struggled mightily to run the football through the first two weeks. Failure to balance out the offensive attack could lead to further troubles as the season progresses.
