Most Likely David Njoku Trade Destinations

Former 2017 first-round pick tight end David Njoku could be in a different uniform by the NFL trade deadline. Njoku originally expressed his concerns about being dealt away to a new team after the Cleveland Browns brought in Austin Hooper in the offseason. After a strong 2018 season, Njoku has dealt with injuries that have kept him sidelined more often than not, but he is currently healthy, making now the perfect time for David Njoku trade.

Here are the three most likely Njoku trade destinations as we approach the NFL trade deadline.

David Njoku Trade Destinations | NFL Trade Deadline

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills offense was possibly the biggest surprise at the start of the season, but if they have one weakness on the offense, it’s the tight end position. Dawson Knox has shown flashes of potential, but he needs to work on his hands to be a starting tight end. What’s better than adding a 6-4, 246-pounder to Josh Allen’s arsenal? He needs a safe option other than Stefon Diggs to get the ball moving again, like it was in the first four weeks.

With options like Diggs, John Brown and Cole Beasley already in the offense, Njoku would have to carve out a consistent role, but the Bills need a tight end badly and he could be that offensive push they’re looking for. A Njoku trade to Buffalo makes too much sense, before the NFL trade deadline.

New England Patriots

The New England Patriots have historically used the tight end position heavily in their offensive scheme. With much uncertainty surrounding the success of the offense ran by Cam Newton, adding a big tight end with speed might be what Bill Belichick is looking for to kickstart this offense a bit. The only active Patriots tight end with a catch on the season is Ryan Izzo, with five total. It’s safe to say the Patriots are not using the tight end position this season due to lack of talent and big-play ability, and that is something Njoku could add.

Despite Newton struggling these past few weeks, Njoku could become one of his favorite targets in the pass game, due to his size and speed. Adding him would open up the options for the offensive scheme, and maybe we’ll see a reincarnation of the normal Patriots we see every season.

Jacksonville Jaguars

This definitely isn’t the team for Njoku, if he wanted to be a part of a winning culture, but if he wanted to be a go-to player, this is the team. He was “the guy” in Cleveland from 2017-18, but with injuries plaguing his early career, the Browns had to move on and give new guys some of the run. The Jaguars have James O’Shaughnessy and Tyler Eifert, two big red-zone targets for Gardner Minshew, but Njoku is very clearly an upgrade to both. The Jaguars tight ends have not been productive at all this season, with only one touchdown from Eifert thus far. So, if the Jaguars want to see some sort of offensive spark, Njoku is their guy.

In an offense led by Gardner Minshew, featuring D.J. Chark Jr., Laviska Shenault and Keelan Cole, Njoku will have to develop a connection with Minshew in order to carve out a role in the offense. He has tremendous upside and this could be the start of the Jacksonville organization rebuild.
