It has been incredibly tough to find value at the running back position this season. Injuries, poor offensive line play and terrible coaching have doomed many backfields. Given these factors, along with four teams on bye, you may have some tough Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em decisions to make in Week 7. I’m here to help!
For my fantasy start/sit, we will discuss players who are on the fringe of your lineup. Players who may or may not be an RB2 or Flex for you, depending on the matchup. Now, labeling a player as a “sit” does not mean they are a must-sit player. As always, check out our weekly fantasy football rankings here.

Fantasy Football Start ’em, Sit ’em: Week 7 RBs
Start: Jordan Mason Fantasy Outlook vs Colts
Jordan Mason has been activated off IR and will return to the Minnesota Vikings’ lineup. If he was dropped in your league, not only should you pick him up off the waiver wire, but Mason kicks off our Week 7 Fantasy Football Start ’em Sit ’em as well!
Mason returns from a thumb injury, so it’s not like it’s a lower-body injury where he needs a ramp-up period. He should be fully in shape and see a full workload. In his only other game this season (Week 1), he saw 15 total carries, including four red zone carries and a touchdown. That’s the kind of workload that will make you a solid fantasy play against the Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts have struggled defensively this season. Well, they have struggled offensively as well. But as far as defense is concerned, Indianapolis allows the sixth-most fantasy points to RBs this season. The Colts also surrender the fifth-most yards per carry (4.8). The Vikings should be able to move the ball relatively easily, which means Jordan Mason will have opportunities in scoring position. He is an RB2 with upside in his return.
Start: Woody Marks Fantasy Outlook vs Giants
I didn’t like Woody Marks last week due to the Jacksonville Jaguars’ run defense. This week, I like what he is capable of against the New York Giants.
The Giants allow five yards per carry, which is the second-most in the NFL. They have been even worse recently, allowing 5.3 over the past three games. For comparison, the Jaguars are the best in the league, allowing just 3.2 yards per carry. So, when Marks totaled just 56 yards on 15 carries against Jacksonville, there is no need to panic. Seeing 15 carries against the Giants means a high-yardage day, and he will have a solid chance to find the end zone as well.
David Montgomery is questionable to play this week. However, given Houston’s Week 8 bye week, they are much more likely to keep Montgomery out until after the bye, meaning another high workload for Marks. Without Montgomery last week, Woody Marks played 78% of the snaps.

Sit: New York Giants RBs at Texans
If you can help it, you absolutely need to sit your New York Giants running backs. Last week, John Harbaugh benched Cam Skattebo when the report was simply a committee approach. After the game, Harbaugh lied and said it was not part of the plan to give Skattebo no touches. Instead, the team was trying to find the “hot hand.” I would argue it’s tough to tell if your RB1 has the hot hand if he doesn’t touch the ball, but I digress.
The Giants have since released Najee Harris, providing a little more clarity to the backfield. Tyrone Tracy Jr. was the one who went off last week, totaling two touchdowns in the game, but he still only had 18 rushing yards and 27 receiving yards. Given his versatile skill set, it may be tempting to play him this week. And it makes sense, right? The Giants will likely be trailing against the Houston Texans. If the Giants are passing while playing from behind, then Tracy and Devin Singletary will see most of the snaps.
That’s all fine and dandy, and you can do that if you’re truly desperate, but this is a backfield I am trying to distance myself from until we get more answers. With a bye in Week 8, it wouldn’t be surprising to see John Harbaugh trade for someone else to add to the mix.
Sit: Tyler Allgeier Fantasy Outlook vs Broncos
I understand the allure of Tyler Allgeier in Week 7. Last week, Jeremiyah Love didn’t play. It led to Allgeier seeing 18 carries and two targets. That’s a massive workload, but it resulted in 38 rushing yards and 10 receiving yards. This inefficient play isn’t new, with Allgeier averaging under 2.5 yards per carry in five straight games.
Love is questionable to play again this week, but that shouldn’t matter. The Broncos are allowing 4.3 yards per carry over the past three games, and Allgeier will have a really tough time moving the ball once again. You can pick up players who will be more efficient and have a higher chance to score a touchdown. Look elsewhere for your bye week fill-in choice.
