Stop me if you have heard this one before: the Buffalo Bills came up short in the playoffs. This time, though, it wasn’t against Kansas City, but rather against Denver. While the Bills have been one of the better teams in the NFL over the past few seasons, at this point, it seems like their team is not good enough to get over that hump. Sure, Josh Allen is a great quarterback, but it has been proven time and time again that he cannot carry the Bills to that Super Bowl. With the emergence of James Cook, the offense has added a little more variety, but when it comes down to it, it is very apparent that the Bills need more help.
That is where the 2026 NFL Draft comes into play. The Bills have several holes that they need to fill to get back to the top of the mountain. The most important is probably at the guard position, as David Edwards is now with the Saints. Defensive line and defensive back are also needed, given the incredible quarterback play as a whole in the AFC. While they did pick up DJ Moore in the offseason, the Bills could also look at a receiver to give Allen another option.
Either way, the Buffalo Bills draft strategy is one to monitor, as it really feels like they need an impact player if they want to win a Super Bowl in the Josh Allen window. Want more draft analysis? Check out our final 2026 NFL Mock Draft here!
Buffalo Bills Draft Targets at No. 26
Emmanuel Pregnon, IOL, Oregon
As we have seen over recent years, the Bills have turned into a run-first team with James Cook’s skill out of the backfield. The success in the run game has been predicated on the strong play from the offensive line, but as I stated in the intro, David Edwards is no longer in Buffalo. Finding an immediate replacement is a must. That is where Emmanuel Pregnon comes into play. Pregnon is a bulldozer on the inside who loves to finish blocks and come away with pancake blocks. That is perfect to place next to Dion Dawkins, who plays with a similar mindset.
Bringing in Pregnon will help ease the transition at guard and will allow the Bills to continue to ride the back of James Cook. Drafting Pregnon also gives the Bills the ability to keep Josh Allen healthy, as when it comes down to it, this team will go as far as the quarterback takes them.
Avieon Terrell, CB, Clemson
This might seem like an odd pick given what Buffalo did last year in drafting Maxwell Hairston, who is going to compete for starting snaps. Drafting Terrell, who might be the second-best corner in the draft, gives the Bills some insurance at the position if Hairston does not work out. Even if Hairston does work out, then bringing Terrell in gives Buffalo a young cornerback duo that could pay off big time. Terrell is a physical corner who plays well in press coverage. Getting hands on the receiver, Terrell has shown to be a pest for opposing teams.
As I stated in the intro, the AFC is loaded with elite quarterback talent in Joe Burrow, Patrick Mahomes, Drake Maye, Lamar Jackson and Justin Herbert, among others. So Buffalo has to be able to cover receivers, and drafting Terrell gives them a great option at slowing down these dynamic offenses.
Caleb Banks, DL, Florida
Similar to what I said about the Bills having to stop the pass game, stopping the run game seems more important. With Kansas City, Denver, Baltimore and the Chargers all having terrific run games, it is no secret that Buffalo will be tested on the ground. Looking at the Bills’ defensive line, there is nothing that really jumps off the page and scares you as an opposing offensive coordinator. That is where Caleb Banks comes into play. Banks is a mammoth who plays strong. Banks has a heavy first punch and excels at driving offensive linemen back.
While this is probably not a pick to rack up sacks, his size and punch alone will be enough to take out at least one blocker for every play and more often than not, two blockers. While a foot injury limited his past season at Florida, having him healthy come the start of the season will be a scary sight for offensive coordinators.
