Pre-Draft Talking Points and Prospect Injuries of Note
- What this draft class lacks in quarterbacks and big names, it makes up for in offensive linemen and team-building prospects
- Arvell Reese has a concussion history
- Francis Mauigoa shoulder and back injury reports; assuming that this was leaked by a team in the Pick 7-12 range hoping that he might fall
- Carnell Tate calf concerns are a minor red flag; concerns about his dynasty fantasy football value
- Mansoor Delane’s abdominal injury seems to be a hernia per source
- Partially torn meniscus and degenerative ACL among concerns surrounding Caleb Downs
No. 1 Pick | Las Vegas Raiders
Raiders select Fernando Mendoza, QB, Indiana
Despite being the first overall draft pick, Fernando Mendoza is not likely to be the Day 1 starter for the Las Vegas Raiders. After signing veteran Kirk Cousins this offseason, the Raiders’ direction seems to be shaped by the experiences of Tom Brady. They will likely let the Heisman Trophy winner watch and learn from the sidelines instead of throwing him to the wolves and risky a serious injury right out of the gates.
FlurrySports NFL Draft Stream Quote: “Fernando Mendoza should be at the draft, it’s lame that he’s not as the star of this thing!” — Reimer
No. 2 Pick | New York Jets
Jets select David Bailey, EDGE, Texas Tech
It was going to be either David Bailey or Arvell Reese at No. 2 overall, and the Jets ultimately settled on the former. Perhaps concussion concerns surrounding Reese played a role. Nonetheless, the Jets get a very fast, twitchy pass-rusher who will be a problem for opposing offenses. Jets coach Aaron Glenn believes that he will help the team transition to primarily running a 3-4 scheme.
FlurrySports NFL Draft Stream Quote: “I don’t think he’s better than Arvell Reese whatsoever, but I think the concussion stuff with Reese is a legitimate thing.” — @FantasyFlurry
No. 3 Pick | Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals select Jeremiyah Love, RB, Notre Dame
Alright then. Apparently the Cardinals didn’t have a trade offer that they liked. Or, maybe they just couldn’t look past the talent that is Jeremiyah Love. Clearly, a running back has to be a stud to even be in the conversation to be drafted this high. Love is that back and is still the 1.01 selection in dynasty fantasy football drafts. However, from a team building standpoint, given all the RBs already on the roster, this is a head-scratcher.
FlurrySports NFL Draft Stream Quote: “Jeremiyah Love, James Conner, Tyler Allgeier, Trey Benson, Bam Knight… Imagine being part of the pro-Trey Benson crowd. He’s done!” — @FantasyFlurry
“What a bad pick!” — Reimer
No. 4 Pick | Tennessee Titans
Titans select Carnell Tate, WR, Ohio State
With Love being a popular mock projection to the Titans, clearly they needed to pivot. Carnell Tate is now set to join a wide receiver room in Nashville that includes free agent signee Wan’Dale Robinson, veteran Calvin Ridley and a pair of second-year pros in Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike. This was clearly a need as the Titans look to get Cam Ward additional offensive weapons.
No. 5 Pick | New York Giants
Giants select Arvell Reese, EDGE, Ohio State
Based on pre-draft mocks and reporting, the Giants couldn’t have expected Arvell Reese to be available to them at fifth overall. Yet, that is how the board fell. The speed with which the pick was made was very telling about how they felt here. Although Reese doesn’t match the Giants’ true positional needs as well as some other prospects, clearly John Harbaugh took a “best available” approach.
“Arvell Reese is going to suck!” — Anonymous source in Green Bay
TRADE: No. 6 Pick | Kansas City Chiefs
No. 6 draft pick traded from CLE to KC in exchange for picks Nos. 9, 74 and 148
Chiefs select Mansoor Delane, CB, LSU
Cornerback was a top priority in this draft, and the Chiefs apparently felt that they needed to jump ahead of the Commanders and Saints in order to secure their guy. With great speed and anticipation, Mansoor Delane projects as one of the more complete corners to enter the league in recent history. He will provide an instant boost to the Chiefs’ secondary, and his lockdown man coverage abilities will open up more options for coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
“Great trade for the Browns. They’ve killed the last two rounds.” — @TrevorLand2
No. 7 Pick | Washington Commanders
Commanders select Sonny Styles, LB, Ohio State
With the way the board has gone early in this draft, Sonny Styles was a natural pick for the Commanders at seven. He was the best available at this spot and will join a defensive front that has gotten a complete makeover in the offseason. Washington’s pass-rush and defense overall projects to be significantly improved with another boost to come if Bobby Wagner signs back on for another year.
No. 8 Pick | New Orleans Saints
Saints select Jordyn Tyson, WR, Arizona State
The Saints are a bit of a weird team from a roster construction standpoint. That said, wide receiver was clearly one of their biggest needs entering the 2026 NFL Draft. With Carnell Tate going long before their selection, they pivot to Jordyn Tyson here. He is a physical receiver who is not shy about playing through contact and gives Tyler Shough another weapon alongside Chris Olave. Tyson has a great chance to buck the trend of failing Big 12 receivers.
“It is very funny in a way that they have a wide receiver who is like one concussion away from being dead and they pick a wide receiver who has a history of concussions.” — @TrevorLand2
“Not knowing where Taysom Hill is these days is alarming.” — @FantasyFlurry
No. 9 Pick | Cleveland Browns
Pick acquired in trade with KC
Browns select Spencer Fano, OT, Utah
The Browns read the board beautifully, trading back three spots and still getting their pick of the litter at offensive tackle. Spencer Fano ultimately gets the nod as the first player off the board at the position. Fano projects as the fourth new starter along the Browns O-line in 2026 after the team brought in each of Elgton Jenkins, Zion Johnson and Tytus Howard this offseason.
“Quinshon Judkins should be a solid RB2 in fantasy football this season running behind this offensive line provided that the Browns aren’t trailing big in the majority of their games.” — @FantasyFlurry
No. 10 Pick | New York Giants
Giants select Francis Mauigoa, OT, Miami
The Giants secured this second top-10 pick through the Dexter Lawrence trade with the Cincinnati Bengals. While some might be confused as to how Francis Mauigoa fits in given his billing as an offensive tackle, @FantasyFlurry has discussed the fact that he almost has a build better suited to play guard in the NFL. With Andrew Thomas and Jermaine Eluemanor in the fold, the Giants could theoretically deploy Mauigoa as a guard right away.
“I’m ready to die for you (Jaxson Dart).” — Francis Mauigoa
“He is an offensive lineman. He takes this shit too seriously, he will pound beers, he is all business and he doesn’t care about himself.” — @FantasyFlurry
TRADE: No. 11 Pick | Dallas Cowboys
No. 11 draft pick traded from MIA to DAL in exchange for picks Nos. 12, 177 and 180
Cowboys select Caleb Downs, S, Ohio State
This is a somewhat surprising fall down the board for Caleb Downs, but the landing spot is hardly a shock. Jerry Jones wanted him so badly that he traded up a single spot to make it happen. The Cowboys are in desperate need of help in their defensive secondary. While Delane was drafted ahead of him, Downs is arguably the best defensive back in this class. He can play all over the field and will help the Dallas defense in multiple ways.
No. 12 Pick | Miami Dolphins
Pick acquired in trade with KC
Dolphins select Kadyn Proctor, OT, Alabama
The Dolphins came into this draft as a team with many needs. Kadyn Proctor will need some tough coaching to refine his game and reach his full potential, but he is a big dude with the capabilities to be a mauler up front. With the team’s offensive line being a mess, the fit is clear.
“He needs a coach, he needs a leader, but he could make this a great run-blocking offensive line.” — @FantasyFlurry
No. 13 Pick | Los Angeles Rams
Rams select Ty Simpson, QB, Alabama
Whoa! Nobody had Ty Simpson going any earlier than the latest picks in the First-Round which would have required a quarterback-needy team to trade back in. The Rams get their post-Matthew Stafford era replacement (in theory) and at the same time fail to address more prominent needs that would make what many view to be a Super Bowl-caliber roster better.
“He (Simpson) has to be a first-round pick in dynasty, right? … I don’t like this at all.” — @FantasyFlurry
“Jay Glazer is absolutely throwing Sean McVay around…” — Reimer
No. 14 Pick | Baltimore Ravens
Ravens select Olaivavega Ioane, OG, Penn State
The Ravens came into the draft with the interior of their offensive line being one of their greatest needs. They still need to double down and find a replacement for Tyler Linderbaum at center, but the unit just got a whole lot better with the selection of Vega Ioane. Interior linemen are not as highly sought-after as tackles, but Ioane is perhaps the best offensive lineman in this class over all.
No. 15 Pick | Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Buccaneers select Rueben Bain Jr., EDGE, Miami
Todd Bowles’ tenure as Bucs head coach hinges directly on how the team performs this season. As a pressure-happy defensive coach, the most obvious area to address in the first round was the pass rush. Rueben Bain Jr. was projected to go in the top-10 in many mocks and fills the team’s most glaring need.
Meanwhile on the FlurrySports NFL Draft Stream: “It is unbelievable that you can get away with the most heinous thing ever if you are good at sports.” — Reimer
No. 16 Pick | New York Jets
Jets select Kenyon Sadiq, TE, Oregon
Despite drafting Mason Taylor in the third-round a year ago, the Jets opted to double down on the tight end position here. Kenyon Sadiq is an athletic freak. He can catch passes and block with the best of them. Look no further than his record-setting 40-yard dash for the position at the NFL Combine for proof of the specimen he is. It will be interesting to see how his rookie year goes from a statistical standpoint given that this is the Jets we are talking about.
“Move over Mason Taylor!” — @TrevorLand2
No. 17 Pick | Detroit Lions
Lions select Blake Miller, OT, Clemson
The need at offensive tackle was obvious for the Lions following Taylor Decker’s retirement. Blake Miller has plenty of experience from his time at Clemson. He has the frame and reach to play tackle in the NFL, but his footwork needs some major coaching and improvement.
“I hate this. Not who I would’ve taken at the position. He just is what he is. However, the fact that Detroit took Miller actually makes me believe in him a little bit more.” — @FantasyFlurry
No. 18 Pick | Minnesota Vikings
Vikings select Caleb Banks, DT, Florida
Anyone and everyone seemed to be mocking Dillon Thieneman to the Vikings here as the Harrison Smith replacement. Instead, Minnesota opted to address what is arguably a greater positional need after moving on from both Javon Hargrave and Jonathan Allen this offseason. The upside on Caleb Banks is real, but he will need dedicated coaching early on in his career to refine his technique.
No. 19 Pick | Carolina Panthers
Panthers select Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia
At 6’7″ and long arms, Monroe Freeling is the epitome of an NFL offensive tackle on paper from a physical standpoint. He is also a great athlete, perhaps moving surprisingly well in the open field. He does have some flaws to clean up, but provided that the Panthers fit him into their run-blocking correctly, this selection will greatly improve their front line.
“Great pick! The Panthers are just doing a great job building this out. As someone who is cautiously optimistic that Jonathan Brooks can contribute this year for fantasy football purposes, I love this pick.” — @FantasyFlurry
TRADE: No. 20 Pick | Philadelphia Eagles
No. 20 draft pick and a 7th-rounder traded from DAL to PHI in exchange for picks Nos. 23, 114 and 137
Eagles select Makai Lemon, WR, USC
Could this signal the AJ Brown trade to the Patriots that has been widely speculated on coming into the draft? The jury is still out on that for now, perhaps even more so given that Makai Lemon does not fully replicate his skill set. Nonetheless, he is a sharp route-runner and doesn’t drop passes giving Jalen Hurts a reliable target.
“Stupid wide receiver pick by the Philadelphia Eagles.” — Reimer
No. 21 Pick | Pittsburgh Steelers
Steelers select Max Iheanachor, OT, Arizona State
With the 2026 NFL Draft being held in Pittsburgh, this is not exactly the splashy pick that the hometown faithful were hoping for. The Steelers have a decision to make ahead of the 2027 season at offensive tackle, but this doesn’t necessarily fill an immediate need. What’s more, Max Iheanachor took up the game of football later in life. His ceiling is high, but he remains very raw as a prospect in many areas.
“It’s so clear that most of the Steelers fans there have no idea who this guy is.” – @TrevorLand2
No. 22 Pick | Los Angeles Chargers
Chargers select Akheem Mesidor, EDGE, Miami
Perhaps Akheem Mesidor’s age was partially responsible for his mini slide down the board relative to expectations. The Chargers’ biggest need entering the draft was along the interior of the defensive line. That said, the opportunity to get a plug-and-play edge rusher was likely too good to pass up given this was also a position of need.
No. 23 Pick | Dallas Cowboys
Pick acquired in trade with PHI
Cowboys select Malachi Lawrence, EDGE, UCF
Despite landing Rashan Gary this offseason, edge rusher was still considered a position of need for Dallas entering the draft. Malachi Lawrence was projected to go in the Second-Round in the majority of mocks, but this is a solid get for the Cowboys. His blend of size and athleticism makes him an intriguing player to monitor as the team hopes for better success in all phases on defense.
No. 24 Pick | Cleveland Browns
Browns select KC Concepcion, WR, Texas A&M
The Browns needed to add another option to their wide receiver room, and they do just that here by taking KC Concepcion. A native of Rochester, NY, Concepcion is a monster when it comes to racking up yards after catch thanks to his speed. He projects to immediately be the No. 2 option in Cleveland’s passing attack behind Jerry Jeudy (for now) with added upside as a returner.
No. 25 Pick | Chicago Bears
Bears select Dillon Thieneman, S, Oregon
Wiudely expected to be the Vikings’ choice at No. 18, Dillon Thieneman lands with an NFC North rival in the Windy City. This is a huge get for the Bears given that they lost Kevin Byard, Jaquan Brisker and two other veterans at the safety position this offseason. Thieneman has the size and athleticism needed to play all over the field.
“Caleb Williams is such a fragile little baby.” — @FantasyFlurry
“Bust!” — Anonymous source in Green Bay
“He looks like Alex Cooper’s husband to me.” —fiancé (Bears fan) of @TrevorLand2
