FlurrySports lists the top Las Vegas Raiders head coach candidates after firing Pete Carroll, including Brian Flores and more.
The Las Vegas Raiders made multiple big splashes last offseason. Not only did they go for broke hiring Pete Carroll to lead their rebuild, but they also selected running back Ashton Jeanty with the sixth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft when they had plenty of holes in their roster. Unfortunately, none of those big moves paid off as the Raiders went 3-14 and will once again try to get it right this time. After firing Pete Carroll, the Raiders are already looking for the leader of their next rebuild.
With plenty of teams looking for a head coach, it’ll be a race to secure the services of a high-end candidate before someone else does. With plenty of candidates to choose from, the Raiders know they have no excuse not to hit a home run in this hiring cycle. Here are the three most likely next Las Vegas Raiders head coach candidates.
Next Las Vegas Raiders Head Coach Candidates
Brian Flores | Vikings DC
Certain franchises have specific things they’re known for. The Green Bay Packers are known for their history and solid quarterbacks, the New England Patriots are known for their stability, and the Las Vegas Raiders are known for a menacing defense. They haven’t looked the part lately, but they do have one of the scariest defensive players in the league in defensive end Maxx Crosby. Pairing him with a great defensive mind like Brian Flores, who does have a connection to Tom Brady, would be good enough. Pairing him with a few more defensive pieces in the upcoming draft would suddenly make their defense scary.
In his previous head coaching gig with the Miami Dolphins, Brian Flores was constantly overachieving with the roster he had. In fact, many could argue that it was the reason why he was fired when the Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross clearly wanted him to tank for a better draft pick. This Raiders team isn’t very good, but if there is anyone who can at least make them look serviceable until they can improve their talent, it’s Flores, making him one of the best options to be the next Raiders head coach.
Matt Nagy | Chiefs OC
Matt Nagy may not be the best hire for the Las Vegas Raiders in the long run, but it would make a lot of sense for the Raiders to take a flier on him. A longtime offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs, Nagy was hired as the head coach of the Chicago Bears in 2018, but his time there ended poorly. After finishing with a 12-4 record in his first season, the infamous “double doink” game flipped his fortunes on its head. In the three seasons after, Nagy’s Bears went 22-27 and only made the playoffs one more time, losing to the New Orleans Saints in the 2020 NFC Wild Card.
While his record certainly could have been better, it’s hard to place most of the blame on him. He was constantly given bad teams, and the Bears struggled to put together a competent roster after that miraculous 2018 season. The biggest plus of hiring Nagy is that the Raiders would poach one of the more important coaches from the Kansas City Chiefs’ staff over the last few years. Nagy knows Patrick Mahomes better than anyone, and getting him in the Raiders building would give them a good chance to try to create their own version of Mahomes; one that could possibly lead the Raiders to great things in the near future.

Klint Kubiak | Seahawks OC
After going the “veteran” route with Pete Carroll, it’s very possible the Raiders immediately jump to the opposite end of the spectrum and go young. Klint Kubiak is only 38 years old and is already one of the hottest coordinators in the league right now. Over the years, he has quickly climbed the coaching ladder and has looked really good as the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks in just his first year. He’s also served as offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings and New Orleans Saints over the past few years.
Hiring Kubiak would be a swing for the Raiders, but it’s worth a shot for a franchise that hasn’t had a lot go right for them lately. Kubiak’s offense has looked great in his first year in Seattle, ranking seventh in yards per game and third in points per game. With the Raiders likely going quarterback with the first overall pick, it would just make sense to pair their next franchise quarterback with an offensive coordinator who has elevated Sam Darnold’s game even more.
