After another calamitous season, the New York Jets are back to square one as they are looking to move on from their brief Aaron Rodgers era. Once again the Jets have a new head coach regime and little direction forward. Now, the attention shifts toward the New York Jets’ free agency targets.

Although the Jets were a solid team on paper last year, they showed plenty of holes in their team. With plenty of changes needed and a culture that desperately needs rewiring, the New York Jets will need to shore up multiple issues this offseason in free agency. Here are three New York Jets free agency targets to help them get back to winning ways and possibly contend for a playoff spot.

New York Jets Team Needs | NFL Free Agency 2025

With being one of the worst teams in the NFL last season, the New York Jets have plenty of needs heading into NFL Free Agency:

    1. Quarterback
    2. Wide Receiver
    3. Defensive Tackle
    4. Strong Safety
    5. Free Safety

New York Jets Free Agency Targets

    Tyler Lockett, WR

Admittedly, Tyler Lockett is not quite the player he was in the past. With that being said, the Jets have plenty of holes on this team and wide receiver is a big one. With so many holes needing to be filled and no real talent behind Wilson at wideout, Lockett provides a solid option for the Jets. Not only does he give the Jets a solid second option, he allows the Jets to not have to worry about receiver during the draft and look at other positions.

Lockett is coming off the worst season of his career, but a lot of that is thanks to the Seahawks’ passing attack looking more the way of Jaxson Smith-Njigba. Lockett is still just two years off of four straight 1,000-yard campaigns and can help the Jets’ new quarterback have another weapon at their disposal.

    Sebastian Joseph-Day, DT

While Sebastian Joseph-Day didn’t have a great past season with the Tennessee Titans, a lot of that can be thanks to issues with the Titans as a whole. He’s a big body that does a solid job at plugging holes up the middle. Pairing him with Quinnen Williams would give the Jets a solid interior of the defensive line.

The Jets’ defensive line wasn’t bad last year, but they need to retool with multiple defensive linemen, primarily Javon Kinlaw, being unrestricted free agents this offseason. Much like with Lockett, Joseph-Day allows the Jets to fill a position of need while also giving them more flexibility in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.

    Trevon Moehrig, S

Even if Chuck Clark is brought back by the team, the Jets have an obvious lack of talent and depth at both safety positions. The safety position was one of the reasons the Jets gave up multiple game-winning drives this past season and needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Trevon Moehrig isn’t the best safety on the market, but it’s hard to imagine the Jets getting many top free agents with their current form. In addition, the top safeties on the market are likely to be re-signing with their current teams which will shrink the market. Moehrig gives the Jets some stability at the position and he has been serviceable in his role since he entered the NFL in 2021.
