WWE Day 1 Match Card and Predictions
Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs Brock Lesnar
The highly-anticipated rematch from the Crown Jewel show is finally here. Brock Lesnar’s mind games have affected Roman Reigns to the point where the longstanding Universal Champion fired his “special counsel”, Paul Heyman. Reigns has held the Universal title for over 400 days, including the entirety of the 2021 calendar year. Reigns will get himself disqualified to retain his belt and set up another massive trilogy bout between these two heavyweights.
WWE Picks: Brock Lesnar (via Disqualification)
WWE Championship Fatal Fourway Match: Big E (c) vs Seth Rollins vs Kevin Owens vs Bobby Lashley
Seth Rollins is finally set to get his shot at the WWE Championship on New Year’s Day. The problem for him is that there have been multiple additions to the match in the form of Kevin Owens and Bobby Lashley. This fatal four-way match is sure to deliver given the star power involved. Any one of the four could walk out of WWE Day 1 with the title.
WWE Picks: Seth Rollins
RAW Women’s Championship Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs Liv Morgan
Liv Morgan gets her second opportunity at the title against Becky Lynch after coming up just short in a wild championship bout on RAW a few weeks ago. Lynch has held the championship since her return at SummerSlam. Morgan is finally getting her push up the ladder in singles competition. Unfortunately, it will not end in her hand being raised with the title on New Year’s Day.
WWE Picks: Becky Lynch
SmackDown Tag Team Championship Match: The Usos (c) vs The New Day
The Usos are defending their titles against King Woods and Kofi Kingston. Jimmy and Jey have been getting beat up by Brock Lesnar in recent weeks as they have been trying to defend their cousin and “tribal chief”, Roman Reigns. Needless to say, preparing for The New Day has not been at the top of their to-do list. King Woods and Kofi should get one last run with the titles before Woods gets his singles push.
WWE Picks: The New Day
RAW Tag Team Championship: RK-Bro vs The Street Profits
Matt Riddle and Randy Orton have made a great strange bedfellow tag team. Who knew that the two could have such great chemistry? They go up against another of the fan-favorite tag teams in The Street Profits. While “The Viper” is bound to stab the happy-go-lucky Riddle in the back sooner or later, RK-Bro doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon. The Street Profits are simply the next team on the list for them to run through at WWE Day 1.
WWE Picks: RK-Bro
Edge vs The Miz
After Miz and Maryse crashed the return party of Edge, a rivalry quickly ensued. Somewhat surprisingly, these two veterans have not clashed previously in WWE. Two of the biggest heels in the history of the sport will square off to begin 2022 at WWE Day 1. Edge still has some push left in him and a fair win over The Miz could serve as a launching pad for one more big run.
WWE Picks: Edge
Drew McIntyre vs Madcap Moss
Do we really need to go in-depth with this match? If Drew McIntyre loses this match, he literally loses all his main event capability that he has built up over the past 24 months. Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin will try some shenanigans, but McIntyre ultimately will emerge with the victory.
WWE Picks: Drew McIntyre
