If you are unaware what NFL survivor picks are, the basic concept is you make NFL picks throughout the season, but you can only pick a team once. Once you lose, you’re knocked out, so choose your Week 7 survivor picks wisely.

Last week, I went 2-1 on my picks, pushing my season record to 13-5. I was completely wrong about my Cowboys prediction last week. We are at a point in the season where we need to take some of the better teams to make sure that we make it until next week. With that in mind, here are my best picks for your Survivor pool.

Teams used for “Lock of the Week”

  • 1 – Buffalo Bills
  • 2 – San Francisco 49ers
  • 3 – Indianapolis Colts
  • 4 – Los Angeles Rams
  • 5– Pittsburgh Steelers
  • 6– Baltimore Ravens

Lock of the Week | Week 7 Survivor Picks

Carolina Panthers vs New Orleans Saints

I would be very surprised if the Saints lost this game. The Saints had their bye week to get most of their guys relatively healthy. New Orleans hasn’t looked great this season and the media has almost turned against them. With all of this slander, it seems likely that this could be a statement game for New Orleans. With Carolina’s horrible run defense, it seems likely that both of the Saints’ running backs can explode for nearly 100 yards. This will be a game where the Saints will rely heavily on the run, leading Drew Brees to do what he does best and hit underneath routes and check downs. Also, the Saints get Michael Thomas back, which is a huge addition to this offense.

Teddy Bridgewater returns to New Orleans and, being one year removed from his stint there, the Saints know exactly what he has to offer for the Carolina offense. With Marshon Latitmore likely shadowing Robby Anderson all day, Carolina may struggle to move the ball of offense. Look for the Saints to win big this week and show that they are still one of the better teams in the NFL.

Value Pick of the Week | Week 7 Survivor Picks

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

I really wanted to make this pick my lock of the week, but taking a rookie quarterback as my lock of the week is a little too risky. Instead, I will use the Chargers as my value pick of the week. The Chargers should win this week. LA is currently favored by 7.5 points, and this will probably go up as the week progresses. Jacksonville’s pass defense is horrible, which is a great recipe for Justin Herbert’s development. Other than Austin Ekeler, Herbert should have a full arsenal of weapons at his disposal. This game has potential to set Herbert’s status as Rookie of the Year in stone.

Jacksonville doesn’t have much on offense outside of James Robinson. The Chargers need to make Gardner Minshew beat them and, as much as I love Minshew, he doesn’t have the talent around him to match what the Chargers have. This game can be a sneaky shootout game, but with what we have seen out of Herbert this year, there is almost no doubt in my mind that he will carry Los Angeles to a win this week. If you already used New Orleans this year, use the Chargers here and feel confident about it.

High Risk High Reward | Week 7 Survivor Picks

Detroit Lions vs Atlanta Falcons

This is a classic matchup of even teams. Both of these teams are not that good. Usually in the NFL, when there are two bad teams playing each other, we end up seeing a monster shootout. I fully expect that to be the case here. By the looks of it, you would immediately think that Atlanta has a much better offense, but in reality, Atlanta is only scoring 0.4 more points per game than Detroit (27-26.6) This is a must-win game for Detroit, in order to keep pace in the NFC North. Atlanta has a bad defense and Matt Stafford is a good enough quarterback to expose those weaknesses. With the emergence of D’Andre Swift and the consistency of Adrian Peterson, the Lions shouldn’t have to rely on Stafford throwing the ball 40+ times. And with Atlanta sporting such a bad secondary, Stafford should be able to tear them apart when he is put into passing downs.

I don’t expect much defense to be played in this game, but my gut feeling is that Detroit’s defense will make one more stop than Atlanta, resulting in a win. In a dome and in a must-win situation for the Lions, look for Stafford to be at the top of his game and pull out a hard-fought victory for Detroit. Let’s just hope that Swift can catch the ball for the game winning touchdown this time…
