With the start of the NBA season, today brings the start of another opportunity to make money with Underdog Fantasy picks and NBA DFS plays tonight. We have two games to kick off the season, with the new-look New York Knicks taking on the defending champion Boston Celtics. and Anthony Edwards and the Timberwolves traveling to Los Angeles to take on the Lakers.

With Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges in New York and Julius Randle in Minnesota, we get our first look at two teams who will try to contend for the NBA Championship this season. Either way, NBA lines are usually easy to expose early in the season. Check out our NBA Player Props page every day for new plays to make you some cash!

What is Underdog Fantasy?

In addition to live DFS drafts, Underdog Fantasy offers pick’em contests. In essence, making NBA DFS picks on Underdog combines daily fantasy sports and player props into one. A wide variety of player props exist for NBA DFS picks today. The more props a user combines, the greater their potential payout.

Unlike some other platforms in the market, Underdog Fantasy also allows users the flexibility to pick and choose which props they pair together. You can even combine DFS picks from multiple sports and games! When making Underdog Fantasy NBA picks, the only limitations are truly the user’s own imagination and creativity.

Underdog Fantasy Pick’em Payout

For the pick’em game format, users string player props together to form an entry. Without adding insurance to the entry by making it a “Flex” entry, you must get every selection correct to be paid out the following payouts (unless there are player multipliers). If picks are correlated, the payout can shift a bit. With insurance, the payout is less, but you can get a selection wrong and still win money!

  • 2 Picks: 3x
  • 3 Picks: 6x
  • 4 Picks: 10x
  • 5 Picks: 20x

NBA DFS Plays and Underdog Fantasy Picks For Opening Night

Mikal Bridges HIGHER Than 14.5 Points

Last season, with the Brooklyn Nets, Mikal Bridges averaged 19.6 points per game on 43.6% shooting as probably the primary option. With Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns as primary scorers, Bridges should be able to see lesser defense in this matchup. I am assuming that Jayson Tatum or Jaylen Brown will get the assignment on Bridges, so you would have to assume those two will take some plays off on defense to conserve energy on offense.

Either way, on a Tom Thibodeau-coached team, Bridges will be on the court for a long time. While he will probably be guarding Tatum all game, Bridges should see ample time on the court, which means he has that many more opportunities to score points. Brunson is also so good at driving and exploiting the paint, so there should be a number of kick-out opportunities for Bridges to hit corner threes.

Naz Reid HIGHER Than 11.5 Points

I am fully expecting the reigning Sixth Man of the Year to pick up where he left off last season. Last year, Reid took 10.5 shots per game with five of those coming from behind the three-point line. Julius Randle will get Anthony Davis guarding him, so I would imagine that Randle will need to work hard and will probably see the bench for a little longer than he will later in the season. That means there should be an expanded role for Reid in this one.

On top of that, Naz Reid was great against the Lakers last season. In Reid’s last three games against the Lakers, he scored 21, 25 and 31 points. With it being so early in the NBA season, I can certainly see Reid seeing more time as injuries to starters are always a concern, making this among my favorite NBA DFS Underdog Fantasy picks.

Jaden McDaniels HIGHER Than 13.5 Points+Rebounds+Assists

Jaden McDaniels will slide into the starting lineup as the three for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. With LeBron James on the other side, I would imagine that McDaniels will be relied on to help limit James. While this has been the case in the past, McDaniels has hit over on this NBA DFS projection in four of his last five games against the Lakers.

McDaniels’ ability to play the 3-and-D role for Minnesota will always give him a spot on the court. Especially with Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle working the paint, McDaniels will be relied on to hit outside shots to win this game. At 6-9, Jaden McDaniels has the size to work inside for rebounds and, to be honest, he may be able to hit this prop on points and rebounds alone.
