While most of the attention this past season was garnered to Patrick Surtain II when it came to cornerbacks, Tyson Campbell quietly flew under the radar. As the 2021 NFL Draft approaches, many teams are starting to see Campbell as a quality SEC talent as well. Although he may not have the pedigree of a Patrick Surtain II, Campbell was also playing for Georgia. While their defense is certainly no joke, they are no Alabama. The majority of analysts predict Campbell being taken at the tail end of the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Here’s the Tyson Campbell NFL Draft profile, along with his stats, highlights and current projections.

Strengths

Tyson Campbell’s combination of height, length and speed is arguably the best it gets at the cornerback position. As a result, Campbell is extremely desirable for NFL teams that are okay with spending the time to develop him. His physical attributes make it easy for him to be a shadow on receivers and thrive in a man-to-man role. Campbell is able to use his speed to chase down receivers when he is beat. His flexibility and body control give opposing receivers fits, as he is able to cleanly knock out the ball without being penalized, which is extremely impressive against steep SEC competition.

Weaknesses

While you can’t argue with his physical traits, Campbell is a very raw prospect. Campbell often suffers from lack of confidence and won’t always trust his instincts as he should. He is slow getting off of blocks from receivers and leaves much to be desired in his ability to contain the ball carrier in the running game. Campbell can lose his balance more often than he should when covering complex routes, which leads to him getting beat. He also often takes his foot off the gas when he doesn’t feel he’s in trouble, and needs to improve his head movement and positioning on deep balls downfield.
