Tyler Reddick will move out of the No. 8 car following the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series finale, as he has signed a contract to become a 23XI Racing driver starting in 2024. The deal is only reported as a multi-year deal. It was announced during Denny Hamlin’s weekly media time. Reddick joined the video call when one of the reporters was talking to Hamlin. She asked if he was in the right place, only for Reddick to then sit next to Hamlin, and that is when they announced that Reddick would be driving for the team in 2024.
The team then said that Kurt Busch would have a ride for as long as he wanted and he would have a desk job at 23XI when he does hang it up. Busch has not responded to the move yet, but he did post on his socials welcoming Reddick to the team. Bubba Wallace is expected to stay with the team in 2024. This means that, theoretically, 23XI Racing could be a three-car team in 2024.
With the price of charters for the cars, don’t expect that, though. They have a year-and-a-half to get the team ready and find sponsors for Reddick before he takes to the track.
The flip side to this, Richard Childress Racing was blindsided by the move. Earlier this season, RCR exercised their option to keep Reddick on their team for the 2023 season. The team released a statement on Twitter following the announcement. Currently, RCR has two drivers in the Xfinity Series with Sheldon Creed and Austin Hill. They could also look elsewhere in the Cup Series.
Erik Jones and Corey Lajoie have been drivers who have been driving well as of late. Jones’s teammate in Ty Dillon is the grandson of Richard Childress so he could be a driver he goes after. Right now, they are concerned with winning a championship so the new driver will be set on the back burner.
