Three NFL Storylines You Shouldn’t Follow

The NFL season is underway. Most of us have been chomping at the bit to get some football. We finally got some real games, and now the rest of week one will fully satisfy our need tonight. It has been a busy off-season. Every fan has a renewed eagerness for the upcoming season with all its possibilities (except for maybe Jets fans).

However, there have been some recurring noise this preseason that has me rolling my eyes before the season is even fully underway. You can buy into all the hype if you want, but I’m already tired of hearing all about them. Don’t waste your time on these storylines.

    The Patriots are Unstoppable

I was actually writing this before the game happened. Now, the Kansas City Chiefs are case and point. Don’t get me wrong, the Patriots are still going to be good. I’m sure they will run away with the dumpster fire that is the AFC East. All I have been hearing all off-season is how great the Patriots are going to be.

Should we talk about 16-0? How many records is Tom Brady going to break this year? He has so many weapons, there’s no way he passes for less than 5,000 and 50 touchdowns. All of this has been buzzing around the Patriots, and it was capped off last night with their ostentatious Super Bowl celebration.

Let’s not give them the Super Bowl this season just yet. I actually think there is a better chance they go 15-1 now than there was a few days ago, but I wouldn’t have bet on it by a long shot. This team has a lot of holes. Edleman is gone for the year. Tom Brady is 40, I don’t care how healthy his food is. Rob Ninkovich is retired. There is already a sport where there is no reason to care about all but a few teams (thank you NBA), I don’t need another one.

The Jaguars are Going to Be Good

This is another storyline that has made me tired just listening to it. It seems like every year is going to be the Jaguars break out year. Sorry to the dozens of fans in Jacksonville; it isn’t going to be your year. I get that Tom Coughlin is back, but I’m not so sure he is going to solve all the problems, and definitely not in one year.

Do you know the last year the time the Jags had a winning record? 2007. People talk about the Patriots winning 16 games. The Jaguars have only won 16 games over the last five seasons combined. So everyone can just stop it with the Jaguars love. They may beat out their record from last year (I’m sure 4 wins are going to be tough), but they aren’t going to be the surprise team that makes the playoffs. Wasn’t this the team that destroyed their starting quarterback’s confidence by having a competition with Chad Henne? I’m sorry, but that doesn’t spell out winning to me.

    Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott is just never going to go away, is he? I don’t know the details of what happened between Elliott and his girlfriend, or whatever she was to him. Only the people present really know what happened. I do know that where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Oh, am I not allowed to use “smoke” when talking about Elliott? Nevertheless, Elliott always seems to have trouble surrounding him. From girlfriends, to marijuana shops, to speeding tickets, Zeke is always in the news.

This particular storyline is just going to drag on and on all season long. This is Tom Brady all over again. It looks like he is going to play most, if not all, of the season now. Then it will go into the off-season where everyone will talk about it ad nauseam, and it will probably lead all the way up to next season and ruin fantasy drafts all over again. I can’t wait.

Really, can this whole story just go away?
