Among the five games on Friday’s busy WNBA betting slate is a Western Conference collision between the Seattle Storm and Dallas Wings. Both teams come into the day with identical 6-5 records. Thus, the winner of tonight’s matchup will assume sole possessions of second place in the West. Adding to the stakes is that this game will count towards the 2022 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup standings. The WNBA betting odds have installed the visitors as a moderate favorite for tonight’s Storm vs Wings prediction.

Storm vs Wings WNBA Betting Game Preview

Seattle Storm Preview

The Storm wrapped up an eight-game homestand on Tuesday night with a win over Atlanta. It was a much-needed positive finish given that Seattle had dropped each of the two previous games. One of those losses actually came in the form of a 17-point blowout to the same Wings team that the Storm will face tonight.

What made the first loss to Dallas all the more surprising is the fact that the Storm possess a massive advantage in the paint. Breanna Stewart continues to lead the WNBA in scoring. Against Atlanta on Tuesday, both she and center Ezi Magbegor scored in double figures and grabbed seven rebounds. One key difference in tonight’s game, as opposed to last week’s matchup in Seattle, is that veteran guard Sue Bird will be active for the Storm.

Dallas Wings Preview

Following their double-digit win over Seattle last week, the Wings dropped a six-point contest to Las Vegas on Sunday. That result concluded a lengthy five-game road trip for Dallas. Tonight’s Storm vs Wings betting matchup marks just the fourth home game for Dallas on the season. Unfortunately, the Wings will be shorthanded as they try to cover as WNBA betting underdogs.

The pregame Storm vs Wings injury report lists Dallas guard Marina Mabrey as OUT for Friday’s matchup. Mabrey’s absence means that the Wings will be without their third-leading scorer and one of their top passers. Added pressure will fall on Arike Ogunbowale and Allisha Gray as a result. Both players showed out in the win over Seattle last week, as did center Satou Sabally who held her own down low against the talented Storm bigs.

Storm vs Wings Stats

  • Seattle is averaging 77.2 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 10 in the WNBA).
  • Seattle is surrendering 75.4 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 2 in the WNBA).
  • Dallas is averaging 80.0 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 5 in the WNBA).
  • Dallas is surrendering 79.4 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 6 in the WNBA).

Storm vs Wings Prediction

Last week’s head-to-head matchup saw these two teams combine for a grand total of 119 points. While one has to believe the Storm will put forth a better shooting effort tonight than they did in that previous game, the low combined total is not something that bettors should dismiss altogether.

For starters, both the Storm and Wings rank among the five slowest teams in the WNBA in terms of pace. For Seattle in particular, slow-paced, defensive-minded games are the way they prefer to play. The Storm also figure to match up quite well with what the Wings try to do offensively.

Dallas ranks third in the league in three-point shooting percentage while also attempting the third-most shots from beyond the arc on a per-game basis. The problem for the Wings is that opponents have shot under 32% from distance against the Storm this season. Thus, if tonight’s game does in fact play out with a plodding tempo and a lot of missed shots and poor looks, it’s difficult to see it going over the current WNBA betting odds total.
