This morning, news out of New England broke that cornerback and former Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore would be released. The newsbreak was calculated, as it then gives teams one last chance to offer the Patriots something in exchange for Gilmore instead of letting him hit waivers.
Following the newsbreak, Gilmore took to Instagram to thank Pats Nation and say goodbye. In the comments, however, came a very straightforward message from Davante Adams — “call me.”
Stephon Gilmore Wants to Join the Green Bay Packers
This is a great thing to see if you’re a Green Bay Packers fan, as one of the team’s captains is out there recruiting players. This is also not the first time Gilmore and Adams have exchanged respect, with Gilmore complimenting Adams in the past.
Of course, the cornerback addition for the Packers is timely. This past weekend, star cornerback Jaire Alexander suffered an AC joint injury, with his status fully up in the air. Without Alexander, this becomes among the worst cornerback groups in the league. However, Gilmore could keep the ship afloat, and Gilmore starting opposite of Alexander could make this secondary elite.
Now, after the comment from Adams, Albert Breer is reporting Gilmore is wanting to join the Packers following “communication with some high-profile players.”
Even Tramon Williams is getting in on the recruiting action, as if Packer fans needed another reason to love the former cornerback.
Packer fans now must hope general manager Brian Gutekunst doesn’t have too much hair gel on his hands to handle the phone. Even he can’t mess this up, right?
