One of two WNBA games scheduled to take place Wednesday night is a battle between two Eastern Conference contenders. The defending champion Chicago Sky will seek their third win over the Washington Mystics in as many tries this season. Tonight’s contest marks the second straight meeting between the teams. The Sky were victorious on their home floor this past Sunday in a game that Mystics star Elena Delle Donne missed for rest purposes. Can Washington flip the script with their best player back on the floor tonight? The WNBA betting odds seem to think so. The home team has been tabbed as the favorite for today’s Sky vs Mystics prediction.

Sky vs Mystics WNBA Betting Game Preview

Chicago Sky Preview

The defending champion Sky have been rolling of late. A win over the same Washington squad they will face tonight marks the most recent triumph in what is currently a three-game winning streak. Going back a bit further, Chicago has won five of their last six overall following a 2-2 start to the season. The champs are also perfect against Eastern Conference Opponents thus far.

Although the Sky don’t exactly have a truly dominant offensive player. However, what Chicago does have is arguably the deepest and most balanced lineup in the league. Five different Sky players come into Wednesday’s matchup averaging north of 11 points on the season. Candace Parker is the focal point of the team, and also leads Chicago in rebounding and blocks. Sharpshooter Courtney Vandersloot has been making a huge impact as a playmaker this season as well, averaging 7.1 assists per game.

Washington Mystics Preview

The Mystics also come into Wednesday’s home game on the right side of .500 in the WNBA standings. However, they have lost three of their last four contests overall. After falling by nine to the Sky on Sunday, Washington will seek redemption in the second game of this home-and-home schedule spot tonight. Of course, the best player on the Mystics got her start in the WNBA playing for the Sky. That would be Elena Delle Donne, who actually sat out Sunday’s matchup between the teams for rest purposes.

The Mystics appear to be set on giving Delle Donne periodic rest throughout the season. When on the floor, she has done enough to lead the Mystics in both scoring and rebounding. It’s no surprise to see Washington favored in today’s Sky vs Mystics prediction with Delle Donne set to return. Ariel Atkins joins Delle Donne in averaging over 15 points per game. Natasha Cloud is the only other player scoring in double figures for Washington to go along with her seven assists per contest.

  • Chicago is surrendering 76.3 points per game (PPG) this season (No. 4 in the WNBA).

Sky vs Mystics Prediction

Despite the fact that the Mystics rank as the slowest team in the WNBA in terms of pace, Sunday’s game between these two teams saw 173 total points scored. Was it the absence of Elena Delle Donne that played a part in this perceived scoring uptick? Possibly. However, when Delle Donne was on the floor in the first encounter between the two sides on May 22nd, that game still produced 155 total points.

Truth be told, this Sky vs Mystics prediction is considering a game between two teams that are both in the bottom half of the league when it comes to pace. They also both rank top-4 in defensive rating. Despite all of these stats that would seemingly favor betting under the total for today’s game, don’t discount the offensive prowess of either club either.

The Mystics enter Wednesday’s matchup ranked fifth in offensive rating at 101.3. Just behind sit the Sky at 100.7. The Sky are also fourth in effective field goal percentage while Washington is fifth. Although one could argue that Delle Donne’s presence might slow down the pace relative to Sunday’s encounter, she also clearly upgrades what the Mystics are capable of offensively. The Sky are also likely to trend in the right direction offensively going forward now that Kahleah Cooper has a half-dozen games under her belt.
