Targets for the Colts in 2021 NFL Free Agency

NFL Free Agency is approaching quickly and for a team like the Indianapolis Colts, free agency has the chance to take them from good to great. The Colts have built a roster that is ready to contend for a Super Bowl all while holding restraint in free agency. The team is now on the cusp of being a legitimate contender with a few moves this offseason.

While I won’t touch on players the Colts should re-sign, these are some players the Colts should target in free agency.

Targets for the Colts in 2021 NFL Free Agency

    Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE

Jadeveon Clowney is a familiar face in the AFC South, and he is yet again back in the free agency market. His stock is lower than it’s every been before. The Colts have been rumored to sign him in the past. Justin Houston is a pending free agent. If he’s signed back, the Colts still desperately need another pass rusher. At just 28 years old, Clowney could be that guy.

The one big knock on Clowney is his ineffectiveness to get sack numbers. However, signing Clowney would make the Colts D-line a pick your poison type of deal. He would bring a legit pass rush to a team who’s lacked edge rushers in the past.

    Kyle Juszczyk, FB

Kyle Juszczyk isn’t just a fullback in the NFL, as he is also a talented receiver. It was clear last season the Colts want to run the ball. Last season during the free agency period, the Colts signed Pro Bowl fullback Roosevelt Nix, but he was later released. Before signing in San Francisco, the Colts were rumored as one of the teams interested in Juszczyk.

He is an excellent blocker, helping Jonathan Taylor in his second season. I expect multiple teams going after the uber-versatile football player.

    Richard Sherman, CB

Now, it may seem I’m targeting San Francisco a lot, but I’m not. Richard Sherman is one of the all-time greats who has defied age. Just one season removed from being named to the second-team All-Pro, Sherman has all the tools to not only be a great corner for the Colts, but a great mentor. The Colts have young corners Rock Ya-Sin (who struggled mightily last season), Marvell Tell (opted out) and return specialist Isaiah Rodgers (who showed in the playoffs maybe he can play outside). All three of those players would benefit from playing alongside Richard Sherman.

    Corey Davis, WR

Corey Davis has not lived up to where he was drafted. He’s undoubtedly had his struggles as a player, but Davis really showed what he could be this season. Davis a former top-5 pick in the draft, but the Titans declined his fifth-year option. He bounced back strong, racking up 984 yards in 14 games. That’s a great season to build off of. Indianapolis looks appealing if I’m Davis. If he isn’t signed by Tennessee, Davis should sign with the Colts in free agency. Why not go to within the division and get a little revenge on his former team twice a year?

    Xavier Woods, DB

It’s a new day, yes it is! No, not that Xavier Woods, but the safety for the Dallas Cowboys. I’m not the biggest fan of bringing in another safety for the Colts, because I genuinely love the dynamic duo of Blackmon and Willis. This year’s safety class is very deep, and because of that, you’re getting a great talent at a discounted rate.

However, I think adding a safety like Woods would be important because he can help out in slot if injuries arise. Woods has shown in the past that he can be legit player when he’s placed in the right system. This past season, Woods was graded 61.9 by Pro Football Focus. There’s plenty of room to grow a fresh start in a new system. Not being a guaranteed a starting role with the Colts could mean he looks elsewhere, however.
