Sam Howell Draft Profile

Strengths

Sam Howell is a three-year starter with impressive confidence on and off the field. He has adequate arm strength and is able to go through multiple reads to find the open receiver. Howell’s confidence and positivity bleeds into his teammates, which will automatically make him a strong locker room presence for whatever team drafts him. Aside from his good pocket presence, Howell is able to do damage with his legs.

Weaknesses

Despite starting for three years with UNC, Howell still struggles with touch and timing. His windup is slow and will result in plenty of sacks at the professional level. In college, he seemed to take way too many unnecessary sacks and in order to compete in the NFL, he’ll need to brush up on his decision-making and positioning on the field moving forward. He has good arm strength but his deep balls come out late and make his receivers really fight for the catch.
