    WWE RAW Highlights From 3/21

Imitation the Sincerest Form of Mockery

The show opened tonight with glass breaking and the crowd roaring for the apparent arrival of Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, Austin was nowhere to be found. Instead, Kevin Owens came down to the ring rocking a bald cap and Stone Cold attire, right down to the oversized knee braces.

Owens went between threatening the rattlesnake and imitating him to an embarrassing degree. He even pulled an old trick out by fake playing Stone Cold’s music one more time to psych out the crowd. This segment wasn’t super unique, but Owens got the crowd to roar with hate and was a mix of hateable and hilarious that few can muster. It’s clear he’s having the time of his life in this feud, and I can’t wait for the chorus of boos when he finally steps foot in Texas.

    Pat McAfee Steals the Show

This point can be summed up by you searching for the inevitable gif of Pat McAfee doing a mix of a windmill chop and the “Suck It” gesture to Theory for a whole 30 seconds. Honestly, McAfee is pure energy whenever he’s on screen, and he brought some life onto RAW tonight.

He was a hoot on commentary, and his gesturing and distraction towards Theory during his match with Finn Balor made the whole thing miles more enjoyable. A pretty decent match to boot, but the real headline here is that Austin Theory and Pat McAfee are quietly building one of the better feuds into WrestleMania, with a despicable heel and a babyface who’s going to tear the roof off as well.

    WWE RAW Lowlights From 3/21

    Tag Team Turmoil

Both the Women’s and Men’s Tag Team title pictures left a sour taste in the mouth this week. While the men have a much better storyline and direction overall, having Alpha Academy lose clean didn’t really make much sense. How are we supposed to believe they could win that triple threat match if they’re losing in the build-up?

But worse yet, for the women, the champions both fell apart and then made up only 20 minutes later. Nice swerve there WWE. There’s just never a point in this division, and having Zelina and Carmella fight amongst each other really serves no purpose. It also makes their opponents for WrestleMania look like buffoons for being outdone by these squabbling champs. So hopefully this match impresses and then they actually build a real storyline for the Women’s Tag Champions.

    WWE Headlines

Multiple sources confirm that Cody Rhodes has signed with WWE and will appear at WrestleMania.

Tonight’s show served as a final rile up for WrestleMania, with most feuds just adding fuel to the fire before most give their big last push next week. The real through-line here is Seth Rollins desperately seeking a WrestleMania moment, disrupting several other matches and promos throughout the night to do so.
