WWE RAW Highlights From 4/4
A Nightmare Comes True
After one of the most anticipated signings in recent memory, Cody Rhodes debuted on RAW after making his return to WWE. He cut a 10 minute promo talking about why he came back, and more specifically why he is doing this for his dad. Rhodes spoke a lot about how much winning the WWE championship would’ve meant to his dad, and now he’s back to put it around his own waist in honor of the American Dream, Dusty Rhodes.
It was a tearful, emotional promo that didn’t really discuss AEW at all, but still made the intentions of Rhodes clear and highlighted why he made his choice. It ended with a slightly strange confrontation with Seth Rollins who just shook Cody’s hand before leaving again. But still, an awesome introduction for the American Nightmare, and if Rhodes does win the big one, this ensured it will be an all-time tearjerker.
An Elias By Any Other Name…
A hilarious moment occurred when an already hilarious Kevin Owens was interrupted. Owens was cutting a funny, biting speech about why his loss to Stone Cold only solidified his place as one of the greats and only happened because he tweaked his back lifting “so much weght” beforehand. And then, a “new wrestler” debuted named Ezekiel. But I shit you not, Ezekiel is a cleaned shaved Elias who announced himself as Elias’ younger brother.
The funny twist was that this dumb change was called out. Owens was furious that “Elias” was pretending to be someone else and called him every other name he could think of in an attempt to get him to confess his real identity. I don’t know how this story continues, but it was genuinely funny, and the stupidity was just right.
Bron Breakker is Beloved
Having Breakker win his belt back on RAW and not NXT: Stand and Deliver is a bit weird, but this match was a great watch. Breakker is being put on RAW to get over with the crowd before a major debut and it’s working well. He gets big cheers, and his matches always impress. So although this booking could’ve been more streamlined, it’s great to see the push of Breakker continue with his stock rising even higher.
WWE RAW Lowlights From 4/4
Women’s Tag Woes
Sasha Banks and Naomi still looking strong after their win at WrestleMania was a good choice in beating Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan. Also fine was teasing a split between Ripley and Liv after since this lost opportunity would have been a title shot. However, not fine is the resulting choice of showing Rhea backstage telling Liv she got them a tag title match next week anyway! So not only did the loss not mean anything, but they’re back together like nothing just happened. Then, they also decided to actually break-up Queen Zelina and Carmella next.
Now you have one less team in the already barren women’s tag division, and they had only loss for the first time the night before. The worst of it all, we then got Corey Graves comforting his fiancé Carmella with an awkwardly long make out session. So many bad things all rolled into one. This was a series of unfortunate events.
WWE Headlines
Celebrities impress at WrestleMania, with Logan Paul, Johnny Knoxville, and Pat McAfee all performing very well and winning their WrestleMania matches. Well, Pat did lose his second match in an impromptu bout with Vince McMahon.
Ronda Rousey reportedly upset about booking, placement on WrestleMania card.
Stone Cold Steve Austin and Vince McMahon both surprise with matches at WrestleMania.
Following an awesome WrestleMania, this show did it’s best to follow up with what felt like a season debut. The must watch segments on here include the promos of Cody, Bianca, Kevin Owens and Roman, all who displayed excellent character work on a show that didn’t have a ton of great wrestling.
