Las Vegas Raiders Preview

Not only did the Raiders suffer an NFL betting upset loss at home last week to the Chicago Bears, but they also lost their head coach. We won’t get into the ongoing email saga that has already swallowed up Jon Gruden and might well take down Adam Schefter and others before the leaking stops. What we will discuss is the sudden inability of the Raiders to move the football offensively. Derek Carr could barely muster 200 yards passing in last week’s loss while also throwing a pick. Josh Jacobs led the team in rushing with only 48 yards and a score. Las Vegas also committed 10 penalties for over 80 yards last week. It certainly was a far cry from the impressive showings this team had in Weeks 1-3.

Defensively, the Raiders offered little resistance to the last competent offense they faced two weeks ago. But even Justin Fields and the Bears racked up over 250 yards of offense last Sunday. Both of the team’s starting cornerbacks, Damon Arnette and Trayvon Mullen Jr., are currently on injured reserve. Meanwhile, virtually all of the defenders who are available are listed on this week’s injury report. While most are actively practicing and should be fine to play Sunday, the team’s lack of defensive depth is already being tested six weeks into the season.

Denver Broncos Preview

Some NFL betting analysts pointed to the weak caliber of the Broncos’ first three opponents this season as cause for concern. Well, Denver has stumbled each of the last two weeks against more competent AFC North foes. Being without both starting offensive guards in Week 4 against the Baltimore Ravens proved impactful. While quarterback, Teddy Bridgewater, was able to clear concussion protocol in time for last week’s game, the Broncos still fell on the road to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite the loss, Bridgewater did play well. He nearly eclipsed 300 yards passing and threw a pair of TD passes against one of the NFL’s tougher defenses. Wideout Courtland Sutton had his best game of the NFL betting season to date, catching seven balls for 120 yards and a score. Tim Patrick also had seven receptions for 89 yards. The Broncos continue to rank among the top-10 in scoring defense and adjusted defensive efficiency despite the two recent setbacks. It will be tough for the Raiders to get right offensively this week against Justin Simmons, Patrick Surtain and the rest of Denver’s stout defense.
