Purdue vs Gonzaga Prediction | March Madness Sweet 16 Picks
This is more than just a chance at a spot in the Elite Eight for Purdue. This game represents a chance for Purdue to finally expel their past NCAA Tournament demons. This team has won two games, but neither of those were against teams that were viewed as anything short of a rug for them to wipe their metaphorical shoes on. This is the first game where Purdue is favored by less than double digits and it will be interesting to see how this game is officiated. Simply put, if Zach Edey can get to the free throw line and put the Bulldogs in foul trouble, the Boilermakers shouldn’t have much trouble.
For Gonzaga, this game represents a chance for them to show the country they are still not to be messed with. After a “down” season this year, Gonzaga has won their first two tournament games by a combined 42 points. The story of the tournament for the Bulldogs has been their lethal shooting from deep as they have shot 47 and 53% from deep so far. If they can continue to move the ball around and knock down shots behind the perimeter, Purdue will be in for a dogfight.
For as good as Gonzaga has looked, they have not faced a team like Purdue yet. Although their shooting has been incredible and coach Mark Few will likely coach laps around Matt Painter, as long as Edey continues to draw fouls at such a high rate without getting in foul trouble himself, there is little Gonzaga can do.
