Did hell freeze over? No, but a Damian Lillard trade request is rumored to be days away. NBA fans have long expected this, because the Portland Trail Blazers consistently fail to surround Lillard with a true championship-caliber team. There was also some controversy with the head coach search and hiring.

While it’s still up in the air if a request is coming, let’s explore possible Damian Lillard trade destinations.

Possible Damian Lillard Trade Destinations

Boston Celtics

There are some who believe that the Boston Celtics could be in the running for a Damian Lillard trade. If Brad Stevens is willing to trade away Jaylen Brown and another young player, it could be enough to pull Lillard to Boston. The scenario also could make sense, if Lillard and Jayson Tatum find a way to make some magic on Team USA this summer. This trade scenario is probably unlikely, but still an intruguing hypothetical.

Golden State Warriors

How disgusting would it be for a team to have a starting lineup of Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Damian Lillard? Rumors have swirled that the Golden State Warriors are eager to deal the No. 7 and 14 NBA Draft picks in exchange for an established veteran. To acquire Lillard would also likely take a younger asset, such as Andrew Wiggins or James Wiseman. This trade scenario is certainly a juicy one to think about, but the Warriors would likely be the worst defensive team in basketball, with both Lillard and Curry in the starting lineup.

New York Knicks

The consensus choice for Lillard’s new home is New York City. The New York Knicks own picks No. 19 and 21 in the 2021 NBA Draft and have young assets to trade away. The Knicks are also in desperate need of consistent point guard play and star power in the backcourt to make the next step. Lillard would provide both of those traits and help them compete in an improving Eastern Conference.
