Philadelphia Phillies Preview

The Phillies looked dead to rights at the end of the third inning down 5-0. Astros ace Justin Verlander was dealing and the Phillies couldn’t buy a hit. Philadelphia got hot at the right time once again as they have all postseason. The Phillies were able to play small ball and get to Verlander. They put up five runs of their own before the Astros could even utilize their bullpen.

Aaron Nola struggled but the Philadelphia bullpen picked up the slack in a big way. The decision to go to their big arm Jose Alvarado early on in the game paid off in a big way as they were able to recapture momentum. With Seranthony Dominguez and David Robertson both throwing 24-25 pitches in Game 1, the Phillies will be hoping that Zack Wheeler can go deep into Game 2.

Houston Astros Preview

The Houston Astros came into the World Series undefeated in postseason play. Kyle Tucker was virtually their entire offense as his two homers helped bring in four of the Astros’ five runs. It looked as if nothing could stop the Astros until their offense came to a screeching halt. They could only muster four more hits for the last 5 2/3 innings of the game and didn’t score a single run.

To be fair to the Astros, their bullpen was incredible. They only gave up two hits and one run over the last five innings. For as bad as Justin Verlander’s stats were coming into the World Series, no one would’ve predicted him to blow a five-run lead with this Houston team. With the best case scenario for the Astros being a tied series heading back to Philadelphia, all the pressure is now on Houston. If Framber Valdez can’t quiet the Phillies’ bats, Houston may be in real trouble.
