Philadelphia Phillies Preview

Even the wildest Phillies fans didn’t expect the Phillies to end up in the World Series. Even more improbable has been the matter in which they’ve done it. Philadelphia’s bats have come alive and have torched three solid pitching staffs so far this postseason. Philadelphia is 9-2 this postseason and have played six of those on the road.

The pitching hasn’t been elite but it has done plenty with the amount of run support they’re getting. They will have their biggest test against an Astros team that still has yet to lose a game this postseason. It’ll be interesting to see how they are able to deal with the hot bats of Yordan Alvarez and Alex Bregman. If they can limit their production and stay hot, they have a real shot at being world champions.

Houston Astros Preview

Conventional wisdom says that the Houston Astros should be able to mow down the Phillies. Not only were they clearly an elite team all season, but they are also not slowing down in the postseason. Their bats have been somewhat quiet so far this postseason and Jose Altuve went five games without a single hit this postseason. If Altuve and Kyle Tucker can’t find a way to get their bats going, can the rest of the Houston bats pick up the slack enough to beat Philadelphia?

For as good as the Houston Astros pitching staff has been this season, many are interested to see how Justin Verlander does in Game 1. For as dominant as he has been throughout his career, he has a 0-6 record with a 5.68 ERA in seven World Series starts. With how hot the Phillies have been, it’s crucial for Houston to stop them from getting any momentum in this series.
