Pelicans vs Suns Prediction
When it comes to this Western Conference First Round series, we can pretty much throw the win-loss records of both teams out the window. The Pelicans are hardly the same team that started the season out by winning one of their first 13 and three of their first 19 games. Acquiring C.J. McCollum at the trade deadline has suddenly made the New Orleans backcourt one to fear. Alongside leading scorer Brandon Ingram, McCollum creates a dynamic duo that is even tough for the suffocating Suns defense to contain.
On the Phoenix side of things, losing Devin Booker for the remainder of this First Round series was a crushing blow. It completed shifted how oddsmakers have priced these teams and how many have been making their Pelicans vs Suns prediction. Even with McCollum, many felt that the Pels were no match for the 64-win Suns. Remove Booker from that 64-win team and Phoenix is suddenly desperate for role players to step up alongside Chris Paul on the offensive end.
In Game 3 of this series, the Suns were able to win without Booker thanks to everything flowing through Paul. In Sunday’s Game 4, the Pelicans were effective in keeping the basketball out of Paul’s hands. CP3 still totaled 11 assists, he only scored four points. For New Orleans to pull the upset tonight, a similar defensive game plan must be successfully deployed. While the Pelicans should be able to keep Game 5 tight throughout, the fact that the Suns are playing at home will help boost the performance of Deandre Ayton and other role players.
Pelicans vs Suns Prediction: Suns 109, Pelicans 104
